Thanks for getting in touch with the Community, jwong8688.

If an account isn't balancing correctly after a reconciliation, there could be an issue with your original opening balance, or sometimes the beginning or ending balance were entered incorrectly. Intuit recommends additionally reviewing your opening, beginning, and ending balances to be sure you've ruled out any possible errors.

There's a few reasons for unreconciling a single transaction. You may have reconciled it by accident, or it was an error and needs to be deleted. If you're unsure, I'd recommend working with an accounting professional. If you're in need of one, there's an awesome tool on our website called Find a ProAdvisor. All ProAdvisors there are QuickBooks-certified and able to provide helpful insights for driving your business's success.

If you know a reconciled transaction need to be unreconciled, you an edit it to unreconcile the record.

Here's how:

  1. Use your Gear icon, then go to Chart of accounts.
  2. Find the account you're working with and click its View register option.
  3. Locate your transaction. If it's been reconciled, you'll see an "R" in its Checkmark (✔) column.
  4. Hit the transactions record to expand its view.
  5. In your Checkmark (✔) column, click the box with an "R" in it until it's blank. This removes your transaction from the reconciliation.
  6. Select Save.

In the event you need to unreconcile more than one transaction at a time, you'll want to reach out to your accountant. Only accountants can undo entire reconciliations.

If you need any guidance when reconciling/unreconciling transactions, there's an awesome service available through our website called QuickBooks Live Expert Assist.

I've also included a detailed resource about unreconciling transactions which may come in handy moving forward: Undo or remove transactions from reconciliations

If there's any additional questions, I'm just a post away. Have a great Thursday!
