If I unlink a linked credit card account in quickbooks online and relink it will I lose previous data?

Hi, Nancy. Let me provide details about disconnecting a credit card account connected to online banking in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

As long as you categorize your transactions, you will not lose your existing accounting data even after disconnecting your credit card account from online banking. It simply prevents the program from downloading new transactions. Please visit this article for more information: Disconnect accounts connected to online banking in QuickBooks Online.

When you reconnect, you may choose the period when QBO starts pulling transactions.

Since you encounter a bank connection error, we don't recommend disconnecting the account until you fix it. For error 9999, this is a reported script error that causes an interruption between the connection of your bank and QBO. Usually, updating the account manually by clicking the Update button should fix the issue. If not, you may sign in to your bank's website to check if they have any system maintenance.

If everything's fine on their end, open your QBO account through a private or incognito window. It helps isolate the issue since it doesn’t store data in the cache. From there, update the account manually.

If the error persists, I recommend reaching out to our Phone Support team for further investigation. They have all the necessary tools to safely look at your account and help you get rid of the error. Here's how you can connect with them:

  1. Go to the Help icon in the top right-hand corner.
  2. Select Search, then press the Contact Us button.
  3. Enter your question in the box and hit Continue.
  4. Please choose the best way you'll want to reach out to us.

Please know that they can only accommodate you Mondays to Fridays from 6 AM to 6 PM PT and Saturdays from 6 AM to 3 PM PT.

Furthermore, it's recommended to reconcile your accounts in QBO to ensure they correspond to your bank statements. This way, your books are balanced and accurate.

Stay in touch if you have additional questions about disconnecting your account in QBO. The Community team is always around to lend a helping hand.

Nicole - Thanks for the quick response. I already tried hitting the update button repeatedly and reached out to QuickBooks online support on April 8th. Got an email back saying the System engineers were aware of the error and we’re working on the issue as soon as possible. I haven’t heard anything from them since, so not a lot of help there.

Thanks for the quick reply, Nicole. Unfortunately, I’ve tried hitting the update button numerous times over the course of several weeks to no avail on April 8. I reached out to the QuickBooks online support team and was told that they were aware of the issue, that the system engineers were working on it And that there were a lot of customers experiencing the same issue. It’s been almost 2 weeks and I haven’t heard anything from them since and it still doesn’t work.

Thank you for confirming your bank account, Nancy. Allow me to share an update about the error 9999.

Upon checking, I've seen that the error 9999 has an INV-101752, wherein we can't update your account. While there's no permanent fix yet, we can manually upload your bank transactions as a CVS file

If you would like to receive a timely update about your case, please feel free to contact our QuickBooks Support Team.

After manually updating your bank transactions, you can reconcile them to ensure accuracy and validity.

Let me know if you need further assistance updating your account or have any QuickBooks-related concerns. Keep safe.

So I just went in and started looking for a solution myself and clicked on the edit pencil for the bank then clicked on edit sign in info, which took me to the bank where I signed in again. Everything updated and all the transactions automatically transferred over. So, all is fixed. I would have thought you would have advised me to do this two weeks ago. So you can mark this as closed and maybe make note of this fix for the next person this happens to..,
