Certainly, you can filter the report to show only one account, @kelli9.

I'll share the steps on how to get a report that'll help you view one bank account. You can do it by customizing your profit and loss report.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Reports, then type "Profit and Loss" in the search field.
  2. Select the Customize button, then tick the Filter drop-down.
  3. Check the Distribution Account box, and then mark your bank account from the drop-down.
  4. Click Run report. See the attached image below for steps 3 and 4.

After filtering the report, the information for that specific account will show in the report. Need help in customizing reports? Check out this guide: Customise reports in QuickBooks Online.

This process doesn't work for me.  When I filter by the bank account I get all zero's on the balance sheet.

The same thing was happening when I was on a live chat trying this technique and the live chat rep didn't really have an answer for why we are losing data when we filter to one bank account.  Any advice?

Thanks for coming back to the Community, kelli9.

I appreciate following the resolution shared by my colleague and sharing the result.

The Profit and Loss report is driven by income and expense accounts, so Balance Sheet accounts don't affect it. QBO is unable to directly filter your Profit and Loss Report by bank account.

Alternatively, use the Location tracking option so you can create a report that lists each account. Please know this functionality is available in the Plus version.

To activate:

  1. Tap the Advanced tab on the left panel to access the Categories section.location track.png
  2. Click the Pencil icon to mark the box for Track locations.location track.1.png
  3. Hit Save and Done.location track.png

To set up the bank as a location:

  1. Go to the Gear icon at the top and select All lists.location track.2.png
  2. Choose the link for Locations.location track.2.png
  3. Click on the New button in the upper right to open the Location Information window.location track.3.pnglocation track.3.png
  4. From there, the name of the location (bank).
  5. Press the Save button.

When creating transactions, click on the Location drop-down and pick the name so QuickBooks will properly track them. You can now build a report for each bank. Go to Step 4 in this article for detailed instructions: Run a Profit and Loss report by bank account in QuickBooks Online.

Is it possible to run a profit and loss in QB online utilizing only one bank account? (rather than the three we have in our account all together)

Highly disappointed this isn't an option.  I am not paying for the plus version.  This feature is imperative to my non profit.

I'm so disappointed that our small nonprofit paid for the online version and I can't do this basic report.  We cannot pay for the plus version.

I found this thread looking for the answer to this exact same situation. It is ridiculous that this simple  task is not included with Quickbooks Online (I have the Plus). I've tried the convoluted solutions and they don't appear to do what I need. I imagine it is hopeless to expect this issue to be fixed, as it is an obvious flaw, and they haven't done anything yet.
