My balance sheet displays bank accounts that were accidently duplicated. The radio button under "Your Linked Accounts" is gray. How can i remove them?

My co-treasurer changed, removing my online access but then it was restored and all accounts re animated. I never reconciled balances for the duplicate accounts. I'd like to remove them completely.

Let's work together to ensure you can remove the duplicate bank account, newcastleptsa. The reason for the grayed-out button could relate to your role access or browser-related issues.

To ensure you can delete the duplicate bank account, confirm with the company or primary admin whether your role access and rights allow you to make these necessary changes.

You can share these steps with your primary admin to verify your access.

  1. Hover to the Gear icon. Select Manage Users.
  2. Find the user you want to edit, then choose Edit in the Action column.
  3. You can change the user role from the Roles dropdown.
  4. Check if the given position allows you to access and delete accounts.
  5. Hit Save.

Once you've verified that you have the required access, we can start removing the duplicate account. This process can be accomplished in two ways: by accessing either the Bank Transactions or the Linked Accounts page. Please follow these steps.

  1. Head to the Transactions menu, then Bank Transactions.
  2. Select the tile for the duplicate bank account.
  3. Press the pencil icon and pick Edit account info.
  4. Tick the Disconnect this account on save checkbox.
  5. Save and Close.

To remove the account on the Linked Accounts page, refer to these steps:

  1. On the Bank Transactions page, press the Link Account dropdown.
  2. Click Manage ConnectionsSelect your bank and look for the duplicate one.
  3. Untick the button to remove them.

On the other hand, if you're the Company Admin or have a Standard All Access, In-house Accountant role, you should be able to do it. In this case, we can troubleshoot this together to ensure the button is not grayed out. Outdated cached files can occasionally lead to unexpected system issues, which may have caused the feature not to work as intended.

You can do this by using the following keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge: Ctrl+ Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Option + P

Return to your regular browser once the button is no longer grayed out and you have made the necessary changes. Clear your cache for a fresh start. You can also switch to other installed supported browsers, which is a good alternative.

Please bear in mind if there's a duplicate bank account, it will also show up on the Chart of Accounts list. Let's make it inactive to ensure it won't appear in your Balance Sheet report, as the option to delete them is unavailable. I still recommend consulting your accountant before taking any of the steps mentioned.

Here's a step-by-step guide:

  1. On the Transactions page, head to the Chart of Accounts tab.
  2. Find the duplicate bank account.
  3. Click the dropdown arrow under the Action column and choose Make inactive.

Additionally, you can choose to
merge them both. However, you'll need to delete all the transactions linked to the duplicate bank account first.

Moreover, check out these extra guides for managing your bank transactions:

I understand the importance of keeping your accounts organized and free of duplicates. By following the suggested steps, you can guarantee the accuracy of your financial reports. I'll always strive to ensure your concerns are addressed promptly.
