Negative deposit from credit card sales refunds

I have a customer credit card refund for 5775 and a daily credit card sales for $4338.  I have entered each in separately as I can't have a negative sales receipt.  Now I need to get them to match up to my bank transaction of money spent.  How do I do this so that my transactions are all matched together?

Hello there, PauleyJK. You can match them from the Banking page.

 

When QuickBooks downloads bank data (money spent), it tries to find a match with any QuickBooks transactions already entered. If you agree with the match information shown in the row, click the Match button. This will match with the existing QuickBooks transaction. 

 

 

 

 

If the match is not detected on the Banking page, you can click the transaction and use the Find match option to reveal other related entries.

I know how to match banking transactions so this was not helpful.

I followed the instructions from another post to create a clearing account, had my daily transaction deposited to this clearing account.  How do I get those 2 transactions (-6253.12 and + 4338.44) to match the $1914.68 in my bank feed?

I'd be happy to help you with matching two different transactions in QuickBooks Online, @PauleyJK.

 

You can manually create a split transaction to match it with the bank feed. I'll show you the steps below:

 

  1. Go to the Transactions menu and select Banking.
  2. Locate the bank transaction and click it.
  3. Select Split transaction beside the Category section.
  4. Enter the sale on the first line. Then, on the second line, enter the refund as  a negative amount.
  5. Select Apply and confirm.

 

When going to the Categorized tab in the Banking page, you'll see that the matched transaction is tagged as Split because of the combination of the refund and a sale. I've added some sample screenshots to see how it looks like:
