Good evening,
I would like to have the columns on the bank reconciliation screen show in a different order. I can't seem to find the answer to that anywhere. I can change which columns show, but not in what order they show. I'm using QBO Essentials.
Thank you,
Currently, we're unable to change the order of these columns, kkotzias. I'd recommend sharing this idea to our Product Development Team. You can click the Gear icon and select Feedback.
Thanks for the feedback, kkotzias. Please let us know if you need anything else.
Not only that, but when you first go in to the reconcile screen, even though the dropdown shows that things like the reference number and payee are supposed to be there, they aren't. Screenshots below. The only way to get them to show up is to go back out to the accounting tab, and start the reconciling again. At least it keeps the info you've entered about the statement date and ending balance.... This has been happening for quite a while. Accountant edition, both desktop app (which I've had to stop using because it was SO VERY SLOW) and the browser edition.
Hi there, ccptreasurer.
I want to make sure your issue with missing columns in the reconciliation screen gets taken of.
Let's perform some basic troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. Let's start with an incognito window to determine if it's the browser that's causing the error.
If it works, try clearing your browser's cache to delete temporary internet files and data that's causing unexpected performance in the product. Let me share a link on how to clear the browser’s cache: https://community.intuit.com/articles/1145697.
Otherwise, use a different browser to be thorough.
If you're still unable to add user for time tracking only, I suggest getting in touch with our Care Support Team. They'll be able to take a closer look at the issue and identify why columns are missing in the reconciliation screen.
Here's how to get their contact information:
Keep me posted on how things go once you've tried the recommended steps above. I'm still here whenever you need help.
This is happening to me as well. It is the reference numbers (i.e. my check numbers) that is missing. I can no longer even get them to display at all. I have tried:
- exiting to the chart of accounts and back in
- clicking the options to show/not show the column
- restarting quickbooks (multiple times)
- restarting it in secure mode (CRTL N)
- tried using different browsers (Chrome and Bing)
Yes, it is monstrously slow as well.
Cannot reconcile an account if I don't see reference numbers.
Thanks for joining this thread, dLearned. I appreciate you detailing the troubleshooting steps you've performed so far.
I've reviewed our ongoing/solved investigations and can confirm there's currently no records of subscribers reporting that their active columns are missing from the reconciliation screen.
I tested this myself in our test drive account and was able to see my Ref no. column after activating it.
Here's an image showing my experience:
Since yours isn't displaying its reference number column like it should, and you've already confirmed the same outcome occurs while browsing in incognito mode, I'd recommend initially switching to another browsing application.
Here's a list of supported browsers:
You can also check a browser's compatibility with your books by utilizing our browser health checkup tool. QuickBooks supports the current and two previous versions of browsers. If you find that you're using an older version, make sure to update it to its latest release. Steps for doing so can be found on the particular company's website.
In the event you've found no problems that could be causing this with your browsers, I'd recommend using a different device and/or internet connection. If it continues happening on other devices and/or internet connections, you'll want to get in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment, conduct further research, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.
They can be reached while you're signed in:
Be sure to review their support hours so you'll know when agents are available.
I've additionally included a detailed resource about system requirements for QuickBooks that may come in handy moving forward: System requirements
I'll be here to help if there's any questions. Have a wonderful day!
As mentioned in my initial post, I have the same issue using two different browsers (Chrome and Edge (I stated Bing, but meant Edge)).
I should also clarify that I do see the column sometimes, just not consistently, or consistently through certain steps (i.e. sometimes it displays only if I go to the register from the banking screen (not the Chart), sometimes I have to go to the Chart first, sometimes I have to go to payments only then all, etc. etc.).
I have reported the issue through feedback, but to be honest, talking to someone in support for something that occurs for others without resolution is really just a waste of time (contacting support is easily at least an hour or more out of my day...up to 3 hours if I have to do screen share or if the agent is very slow/busy. Maybe others have that amount of time to spare, but I don't).
I want to ensure this is taken care of, @dLearned.
To fix this, I'd recommend getting in touch with our Customer Support Team. This way, they can pull up your account securely and help check the cause of the issue. You can follow the steps given above to do so.

On another note, does anyone know how to stretch out the account column on a reconciliation so I can see the full account name?
Thanks for joining the conversation, Raven78. I have the steps for extending the account column to view the account name entirely on the reconciliation page.
Ensuring that all relevant information is visible while reconciling your account is essential. This step helps avoid confusion, assuring you're reconciling the correct account. To achieve this, return to your reconciliation page and follow the steps below.
