PayPal Integration with Quickbooks Desktop 2024

Hello,

I recently decided to switch to QB Desktop Pro after using Online for the 2022 tax year and becoming frustrated with the performance and lack of control.

However, while both my bank accounts and PayPal are both capable of Direct Connect (transaction autosync) with Online, neither seem to be working with Desktop? The Bank-Feed Setup wizard only brings up Web-Connect with my main bank and PayPal EWC does not even attempt to connect, but they both allow transactions to be automatically downloaded.

With my bank I'm at minimal able to download a QBO file and manually update the last 6-months of transactions, but PayPal just doesn't seem to work withou me needing to pay ANOTHER company for a function that seems like it should be available with what was $600/yr software?

What am I missing and who do I talk to about getting Desktop to work with these basic features?

Thank you,

Kevin at ReMag Airsoft LLC

Hi, @ReMag Airsoft LLC. I understand what you've been through, and I'll be there to share some information on why sometimes this could happen with banks like your main bank and PayPal.

4Gal is correct. In addition, the financial institutions may have maintenance updates that require your attention, like pending alerts and online banking server issues. To fix this, you can check them by logging in to your two financial institutions' websites to acknowledge the changes.

If your online banking websites are working efficiently and may see specific bank feed errors in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), I suggest following the steps outlined in this article: Fix OL and OLSU Bank Feeds errors in QuickBooks Desktop. While it's good to know that you can still download and import transactions from your bank, I acknowledge the benefits of having them automatically sync your bank feeds into QBDT via Direct Connect and/or Web Connect.

However, if the issue persists with automatic feed-in entries via Direct Connect with your bank account and Web Connect and Direct Connect aren't working with PayPal feeds, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Support team to investigate this further. They have tools to pull up your account to see what's causing this issue and resolve it promptly.

Here's how:

  1. In your QBDT program, go to Help.
  2. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help/Contact Us.
  3. Hit Contact Us.
  4. Enter your concern about the bank feed issue you have with Direct Connect and Web Connect, click Select Contact Us.
  5. Sign in to your Intuit account and select Continue and then Continue with my account.
*If you don't already have an account, make sure to Create a new account.
  6. We'll email you a single use code. Enter your code and select Continue.
*If you have more than one account, select the account you want to use and then Continue.
  7. Choose either to chat with us or Have us call you.

Take a look at our Pro Plus, Premier Plus, and Enterprise phone and chat support hours for more details.

I've also included some articles that can be helpful when importing banking transactions and how to deal with them when you see them in your bank feeds' Transaction List:

I'm still here if you need more assistance with getting your bank feeds sync automatically in QBDT. Anytime I can help and support your business success. Take care always.

Your posts are visible in the thread, @ReMag Airsoft LLC. Let's perform some troubleshooting to get rid of the error.

Firstly, access your QuickBooks account using an incognito or private window. This mode does not retain cache, which allows us to verify if the issue is with the webpage.

Here are the keyboard shortcuts you can use:

  • For Firefox, press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • For Chrome, press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • For Safari, hold down Command + Shift + N

From there, sign in to your QuickBooks account to see if you can respond to this post. If it works, I recommend clearing the default browser's cache. You can also use other supported browsers as an alternative.

Let me know if there’s anything else that I can assist with. I’m always here to help you with any QuickBooks tasks. Take care.

I seem to be able to comment on posts, but as soon as I add information about my problem it throws that error, incognito and with a different browser.

I am able to download and import QBO's from my bank without issues, though it is tedious. PayPal, doesn't seem to capable of exporting transactions in QBO format.

You may have 2 options:

1. Import the *.csv file from Paypal by using the importer tool. It's a one time license tool

https://get.transactionpro.com/qbd

2. Use the csv2qbo converter tool. It's $60 one time license tool.

Hello, ReMag Airsoft LLC.

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. Aside from 4Gal suggestion, It's important to remember that QuickBooks can only handle CSV files with a 3-column or 4-column format. These columns must be in a specific order that QuickBooks can handle.  It's worth noting that each bank formats CSV files differently, which means that you may encounter problems when trying to import CSVs from certain banks if their files do not have the format QuickBooks requires.

In case your bank does not support CSV files, there are alternative options you can consider. For example, you could import your data using Quicken (QFX), QuickBooks Online (QBO), or Microsoft Money (OFX). If you choose this route, you can then upload more than 90 days of bank transactions through Web Connect.

It's important to note that while this option may work for some banks, it may only be available for other banks. Therefore, it's always best to check with your bank to see what file formats they support and to ensure that your files are correctly formatted before attempting to import them into QuickBooks.

You can refer to this article for more details about file format accepted in QuickBooks: Format CSV files in Excel to get bank transactions into QuickBooks.

Once the transactions are already in the bank feed, you can start categorizing them. To ensure all of your data is correctly organized, take the time to go through each transaction in your bank feed and assign the appropriate category. Additionally, most financial management software allows you to create rules for categorizing transactions automatically, saving you time and effort in the future.

Feel free to comment below if you have other questions about QuickBooks. I'll be glad to assist you in the future. Have a great day!

Thank you for all your responses!

I'm set to talk to a local bookkeeping company in a few weeks. I need to see if Desktop will be capable of the things I need.

It's sounding like it's missing a few basic functions which is a dealbreaker for a $600/yr piece of software. I should not need to pay another company for a plugin to get transactions from the (arguably) #1 online payment processor into the #1 bookkeeping software, especially at the price point that is being asked.

I'll see what the local bookkeepers say and if they can help me with my local bank configurations, but I do appreciate all your assistance.

Thank you,
