Ever since transitioning to a new 2020 MacBook Pro, I have been unable to open the check register. I can successfully write checks and make invoices. Clicking on the register on my homepage does nothing. Hopefully you ca help! Thanks!
Hi there, Shortgirl06.
Let's make sure that your QuickBooks is on the latest maintenance release. This usually resolves some of the most common program issues and installs minor fixes. Here's how:
Then, go back to your register and check if you can already open it. You can also refer to these articles for additional troubleshooting steps in case the issue persists:

The problems keep mounting. I was able to open the register - my bad - I didn't designate a bank. However, I cannot enter Owner's Draw. I was able to do one, but now, when I write the check to myself with a different amount, it says I cannot enter because the transaction doesn't balance. I cannot change the amount under Expenses - it is stuck on the first amount. And in the register, there are items for Owner's Draw that aren't in any of my bank statements. And two items that appear both in the payments and deposits, cancelling both out.
From the original problem back in July of last year, it was suggested that I delete my PLISTs - but there weren't any to begin with. I'm afraid of trying to rebuild the data (the Verify didn't show any issues) because I can't trust the back up. I think I need professional assistance.
I just replied and hit Post. It didn't post. I found the register - user error. Verify showed no issues. Yet I am unable to enter an Owner's Draw. When I write the check to myself, I get the warning that the transaction doesn't balance. It shows the previous amount under Expenses and doesn't allow me to change it. Last summer when I had issues, I was told to delete the PLIST. But there was no PLIST to be found anywhere on my MacBook. I gave up and let the rest of the year slide (no business - thank you COVID). Now when I need to enter data for my taxes, I'm unable to get past the warning. I did successfully enter other items (charitable donations). The issue seems to be with Owner's Draw. I am afraid of rebuilding the data because I'm afraid that the backup may be corrupt.
Hi, @Shortgirl06.
I appreciate you for performing some troubleshooting steps to isolate the issue when recording the owner's draw. I'm here to share with you additional resolutions to fix the error.
To get rid of this error message, set the same amounts on your checks from the USD section and under Expenses or Items.
Make sure that you're not restricted to the said access to modify the prefilled amounts on the check. You may open the QuickBooks file as an admin or a login with access to creating and modifying checks.
Here's an article you can read more about user and password preferences in QBDT for Mac.
If the same thing happens, I recommend updating or fully uninstall and reinstall QuickBooks to start fresh. I'm adding these links as your guide:

Thanks so much for your efforts in helping me. Nothing has worked. I need to trash the app and install a clean version. Fortunately (or unfortunately) my business has been totally dormant since last March, so there isn't a lot I have to enter! Thanks again.
