Activate direct deposit - error message 40001

Hello, I've been trying to activate direct deposit for several weeks. I've been on chat or phone support with Quickbooks for about 5 hours and they still can't fix the problem. I keep getting error number 40001.

I've tried all their solutions, but none have helped. Each time I contact them the beginner level support always tries the same solutions. Even the tier 3 support couldn't help. Even more frustrating is that they promised to send me an email with the solution, but that didn't happen. Several times the call with they gets disconnected and no call back.

To top it off, the Contact Us option on my quickbooks pro plus 2022 isn't working.

This is my worst experience with quickbooks in 18 years.

Activate direct deposit - error message 40001

I'm getting the same error 40001 trying to activate Direct Deposit. I've run QB tools hub to check the network and qbw file. I've rebuilt from within QB.

Please let me know if you've found a solution.

Thank you

Activate direct deposit - error message 40001

Hello @raleighkim,

Thank you for sharing with us the steps you've performed to resolve the issue. I'm here to help you fix the error message when activating direct deposit in QuickBooks Desktop.

I can see that you've already performed some basic troubleshooting to activate DD payroll. If you haven't updated QuickBooks yet, please do so to ensure the program is on the latest release.

This process is crucial to ensure the software has the most recent fixes to issues in QuickBooks. Aside from improving the performance of the software, this step also resolves common and complicated errors instantly.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Help tab in the upper-right corner, then select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Go to the Update Now tab.
  3. Select the updates you want to include.
  4. Put a checkmark on the box beside Reset Update.
  5. Hit Get Updates. Download and install automatic QuickBooks Desktop updates
  6. Close and re-open QuickBooks.

After performing the steps above, log into the company file using Admin access. The error usually happens if a user doesn't have the required permissions.

If the error persists, you can proceed with contacting our dedicated specialists for direct deposit problems. Our Customer Support Team for Basic and Enhanced is available from 6 AM - 6 PM PT (Monday - Friday). For Assisted Payroll, any time, any day.

See the steps to get a hold of a specialist:

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Click the Help tab at the top menu bar.
  3. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  4. Enter your concern, then hit Continue.
  5. Choose Get a callback.

Also, you can suppress the application if you encounter unusual behavior, like not being able to open a file. For your reference, I've attached this article: QuickBooks Desktop doesn't start or won't open.

Hit the Reply button below if you need further assistance activating direct deposit. I'm always ready to provide a helping hand. Have a great day.

Activate direct deposit - error message 40001

I am amazed at how many times we are told to do the same steps to both get help-doesn't exist and 2- correct the problems-also doesn't exist.  I have been working with the Desktop Payroll Support since I attempted to direct deposit one employees check.  I have always printed paychecks-I do payroll and have done it in-house for over 30 years.  I gave into QB updating my Plus Pro 2021 to 2023 because they were no longer supporting my payroll.  Since then I have had many experiences but none as bad as the payroll problem.  I contacted them so many times that my account was sent to the fraud department.  That person is in the US and after I submitted all the documentation showing that my husband owns the company that carries his name I was told by the fraud department that I didnt need to send them anything that the Desktop Payroll support can help me.  I discovered that the bank name and account that is listed in my account is an account from 15-20 years ago and I have had three other banks(from banks buying each other out) since then.  When I have tried to correct that info it defaults to the previous bank.  I have told the Payroll support this and they have instructed me to provide them with all the same documentation that I previously sent to the fraud department proving my husband owns the company.  Evidentially the fraud dept in the US does not talk to Tech Support in Singapore or the Phillipines.  I have been so angry I have not made any calls for about three business days trying to cool off.  I hate QB Desktop Payroll Tech Support!  They do not help with anything

I hear you. As a QB subscriber for 30 years I agree that their support isn't very good, but whose is anymore?

I'm now having the same problem with trying to set up direct deposit with the same error code.

The good thing for me is I'll be handing the business over to my sons and they can deal with it.
