Somehow my reminders got turned off and don't show as a link on the dashboard anymore. Does anyone know how to turn it back on?

No, that wasn't it at all.  There were many reminders on my list.  It is back now though...with all reminders intact.  It was gone for everyone in my company, and is now back for everyone.  Since we are using Online, and not Desktop, I am pretty sure it was something on the server end.

How do you get bills to show up as reminders on the list though?  The only thing that shows on our list are the recurring templates that we have created ourselves and set as reminder.  It would be nice if there was a way to get the bill that are due to show up too.  I'm pretty sure that they do in QB desktop version.

Let me share some insights about how task reminders work on QuickBooks, patti5.

The Tasks list provides important reminders of when various tasks need to be done (pay taxes or file forms). It will only show when you have a pending work or set up that needs to be done. If you’re already done doing those, the list won’t show anything on your dashboard.

By the way, If you're using QuickBooks Online Advanced, we can use workflows to send reminders to your team to complete specific tasks, like reviewing open invoices.

Hi there, @patti5

When creating a bill, you can use the reminder template to get an alert in QBO when the transaction is due. This feature gives you an option to set the date days before the transaction date and its interval.

Here's how to set this up:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Under Lists, select Recurring Transactions.
  3. Press the Reminder List button in the upper right-hand corner.
  4. Hit the New button in the upper right-hand corner.
  5. Select Bill as the type and click OK.
  6. Enter the Template name, select Reminder as the Type, and enter the number of days before the transaction date.
  7. Tap a Vendor (you can change this later when using the template to create the bill), enter the Interval, and the Start/End dates.
  8. Enter the details of the bill, and click Save template

 reminder3.PNG

They will be displayed in the Task section on the homepage (Dashboard). If you decide to create the transactions, you can just click the reminder and make any necessary changes if needed before sending them to vendors/customers.

Here's how to use the template to create a bill:

  1. From the Recurring Transactions list, find the template you created.
  2. Click the drop-down arrow below the ACTION column.
  3. Select Use.

You can also check this article o learn more about the templates for recurring transactions

Somehow my reminders got turned off and don't show as a link on the dashboard anymore. Does anyone know how to turn it back on?

I have reminders built to enter all of my recurring bills.  That wasn't what I was suggesting is missing from QB.  Bills are not usually due the day that they are entered - they are due on the due date, which is in the future.  Once you create the bill from the recurring template and update the bill information for that month, including the due date in the future (21 days from now for example), it doesn't automatically remind you when the bill is due.  On the other hand, QB Desktop does because there is a "Bills to Pay" section that is automatically added as a reminder when you create the bill from the memorized transaction.

What I am suggesting is that the dashboard would be more useful if there was an option to configure the Expenses section to show expenses for the year in paid and unpaid, as opposed to categorizing them by type.  That doesn't make any difference to me on the dashboard, but seeing that I had unpaid bills would.

Hi there, @patti5.

At this time, there isn't an option to configure the Expenses section in the Dashboard to show the paid and unpaid bills. As a workaround, you can consider viewing them on the Expenses page.

Here's how:

  1. Click Expenses from the left panel.
  2. On the Expense Transactions page, click the Filter drop-down.
  3. Select Bill from the Type drop-down, then All statues in the Status drop-down.
  4. Choose the date range you want to show.
  5. Select the appropriate payee and category, then click Apply.

Once done, this will show you the bills that are paid and unpaid for the year.

As always, feel free to visit our QuickBooks Community help website if you need tips and related articles in the future.

Keep in touch if you need any more assistance with this, or there's something else I can do for you. I've got your back. Have a good day and keep safe.

Of course that IS how I find them now.  I am looking for it to be added to the dashboard.  I am not thrilled by the continued lack of functionality between QB Desktop and QB Online.

This is still a problem.  Intuit "Upgraded" the Online Quickbooks and removed all reminders from the Dashboard.  No one has been able to "find" them.  Example: create an invoice and mark it [email later].  There used to be a Reminder in the Dashboard that there are invoices to be emailed - - - GONE.  Bills to be paid - - - GONE.  I do NOT want to have to run a specific report to see what recurring events are scheduled to see the reminder to initiate an event that is not marked to be automatically entered.  There should (and has been in the past) a section in the Dashboard for [Get Things Done] where these Reminders SHOW!

Come on, Intuit - it's been 2 and a half years

Reinforcing the last comment: it's a basic and useful bit of functionality to remind recurring transactions: QBO does so many things well, but burying an invaluable feature which ONLY purpose is to relieve someone of having to remember something actively is kind of passive-aggressive programming, in my opinion.

I have two Quickbooks online companies.  For one company, the task reminder that I have recurring entries to be entered appears on the dashboard.  For the other company, there is no message.  You have to remember to click recurring entries, then click reminder list, to see the list of entries that need to be entered.  Quickbooks support can not figure out why and now have sent me twice to technical support to look into it.  We will see if they can figure it out.  A reminder's purpose is to remind you, not you have to remember to click somewhere to see if you need to do something.  Very frustrating.

I'm having the same issue. Ever since QBO changed the look of the dashboard, many things I use daily are now no longer one click away. It's beyond annoying. I have a lot of bills & checks set up as recurring transactions. Some I have set up to go directly to "bills to pay" a certain number of days before they're due, but some are set up as just reminders. The dashboard used to show me my reminder transactions right at the top. I mean, what's the point of a reminder transaction when QBO never gives you a REMINDER?? There's not even a reminder list anywhere, or a reminder report to create. Your only option is going to the gear, then Recurring Transactions, then scrolling the list looking for your reminder transactions and the date they're due so you can manually enter it.

And even better, on the Recurring Transactions page, in the top right there's a "Reminders List" you can click. Except when you click it, there isn't one transaction on the list. Even though I have 17 recurring transactions set up as "reminder" transactions. You can't make this stuff up.

I agree my reminders which used to be very helpful are now an annoyance.   When a reminder comes up and I click "edit and create" fill in the details and save the reminder doesn't go away like it used to.  I have to click "skip" to make it go away.  Also some reminders don't show up at all!  I have several tickets opened with QBO support since last summer and still no resolution.  Very frustrating.

YES!!!!  I've called in about this exact issue!

Instead of saving me time, with the reminders.  It's a hassle and taking MORE time.

They changed something and no one seems to know about it an Quickbooks.

If anyone learns anything, I'd love to know.

I was able to find the recurring charges reminder on left had side:

Recurring Transactions

Reminder List - Click that on top right.

Edit and Create

The issue now, is that the reminder doesn't drop off, once you've completed the task.

It still show that you need to create the bill, when you already have.

You then have to click the drop down arrow and click "skip".

I've ALWAYS from the beginning of Quickbooks coming out, been a huge fan and supporter.  I work on both QBO and Desktop.  I wasn't crazy about online, but slowly became a fan.  But now, the Quickbooks service is horrible and they have changed things (fine), but not for the better.  For the first time in 30 years, I'm seriously considering a different accounting software.

I've been promised a call back and/ or a fix on this issue since July 2023, and nothing......

One last thing, if hopefully Quickbooks is reading this.

The reminders feature for the invoices works!!!  Yay
