Why are checks and deposits in QBO so complicated now? Why are there journal entries on my deposit screen?

Thanks for reaching out to us, @suzannek1. I am here to provide additional insights regarding your checks and deposits and to address any questions you may have about the journal entries on your bank deposit page.

Checks are written orders to a bank to pay the listed amount to the person depositing the check, making them as good as cash. Bank deposit is QuickBooks Online special way to combine transactions recorded into your Undeposited Funds account, also known as Payments to deposit. May I ask what are the challenges you have encountered with checks and bank deposits?

Regarding your concern about your journal entries showing on your bank deposit page, this happens if the Journal entry is posted to the Undeposited Funds account, also known as payments to deposit.

You can open your journal entry and verify that your transactions are posted to the correct account or category. You can also edit your journal entry and change the account from Undeposited to a direct bank deposit.

Furthermore, I'm adding this helpful article for your guide in categorizing your online bank transactions in QBO: Categorize online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

If you need help with your checks and bank deposits, please don't hesitate to reply below. I'm more than happy to assist you in any way I can.

Why are checks and deposits in QBO so complicated now? Why are there journal entries on my deposit screen?

I do know what checks and deposits are and how they work.I've been doing this for 12 years.   My comment is about QBO making everything so unnecessarily messy .   I have blank journal entries on my deposit screen.   There is nothing filled in.  Can I get rid of these?

Thank you for getting back on this thread, @suzannek1

I recognize the importance of knowing why we have blank transactions in QBO.

Journal entries in QuickBooks Online (QBO) are displayed on our Bank Deposit page. Since you mentioned that you encountered a blank journal entry, the reason for this is you have entered a zero amount when creating the entries.

No worries, we can easily edit these out.

Also, I recommend writing down or recalling Ref No. for easy tracking.

To edit our entries, we have to:

  1. Go to the Chart of accounts page.
  2. Find the account you created the journal entry for. Then select View register.
  3. Click the Journal entry and choose Edit
  4. Make necessary changes.
  5. Click Save and close

Moreover, I'll add this article about how to swap the debits and credits or eliminate entries in QBO: Reverse or delete a journal entry in QuickBooks Online

I'm still all ears if you need further assistance managing your deposits and journal entries. Just leave your reply below, and I'll circle back to help you.

Why are checks and deposits in QBO so complicated now? Why are there journal entries on my deposit screen?

I guess I am not explaining this well.  it is supposed to be zero.  There are no changed to be made. There are no journal entries to attach to any deposit.   I just want to make a simple deposit without having to scroll down pass all these blank journal entries.  CAN I GET THEM OFF MY SCREEN? That is my question.
