I've had a building loan (long term liability) in QBO for a few years. When my bank changed their website url, I had to disconnect this loan. Since then, (5 months) I can't reconnect it. The loan shows on my chart of accounts screen and says it's active but I can't get that back onto the dashboard screen with my other bank accounts. It's not syncing anyway.
When I try to sync that bank loan as a new account, the only option is as a checking account. This shouldn't be hard but my bookkeeper has no clue either. Help
Thank you.
Hello there, @drjreitz.
I'll share details about the connection of your bank in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
Thank you for sharing the details of the troubleshooting steps you tried to resolve the connection of your bank account. Saying they've updated to a new website, let's send a request for the support of your bank instead to make sure it is updated to the new platform. I'll show you how.
However, if you wanted to work on your loan and its transaction right now, let's consider downloading them from your bank and uploading the file to QuickBooks. This article will show you the steps needed in uploading them: Manually Upload Transactions into QuickBooks Online.
Additionally, I've also included this helpful article for the steps in case you need to start balancing your bank account register: How to Reconcile your Accounts so they Match your Bank and Credit Card Statements?.

Thank you for your response.
I contacted my bank last week actually. Since my other accounts are on QBO but not the loan, it's an issue with QBO.
I would assume there's a way to re-connect the liability that's been there for years instead of creating a 'new account' ?
Hello @drjreitz,
We want to help you with your concern about linking the bank. However, we need more information about it to provide the right resolution and to get this sorted out promptly.
Can you share the name of the bank you're trying to link again to QuickBooks, as well as the actual account type? Are you getting an error when performing the process? It would be best to provide a screenshot of the option you're seeing on your end for visual reference.
QBO users can connect bank accounts directly from the chart of accounts. In the meantime, you can try following the steps in this article to avoid creating a new account (scroll down to Connect your bank account from your chart of accounts (optional)): Connect bank and credit card accounts to QuickBooks Online.
Please know that you're always welcome to post any questions you have in this space. Have a great day ahead.
I've attached screenshots.
One is of the loan as it is in chart of accounts. It says it's active but doesn't connect with my bank OR show up on the banking page.
-One picture showing no loan on the banking page as it used to be for years.
-One is a pic of the only options I have when I try to link another account from the banking page.
For some reason, it's not letting me reply?

I appreciate you for coming back to the thread and adding screenshots to see further details about your concern, drjreitz. With this, I'll be sharing information on how accounts work in QuickBooks. Then, ensure you can still utilize your liability account so you can get back on track.
Accounts on the Banking page and on the Chart of accounts have their own separate platforms. They work differently and they’re designed to operate independently. With this, you can connect as many business and personal accounts as you want on the Banking page as long as the setup of the account is bank or credit card. That's the reason why the only option you can see is a checking account. You can open this article to see extra details: Connect bank and credit card accounts to QuickBooks Online.
On the other hand, The accounts on the COA are organized by columns including name, type, and detail type. When the long-term liability account remains active in the Charts of accounts section, you can always use it to connect your entries. That way, you're able to track and manage your data by manually recording them.
Lastly, you may refer to this article to view steps on how to reconcile your accounts to avoid any discrepancies: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.
Let me know in the comments below if you have other concerns about managing your account in QuickBooks. I'm just around to help, drjreitz. Take care always and have a great day!
