Repeatedly getting this message when trying to link a new bank account: "User ID or password not working". The User name and password are correct. What now?

I'm signing in from Vietnam through my U.S.-Based QB online via Nord VPN. That could be putting a fly in the ointment. Another thing -- when I log into the Vietnam-based bank directly through their website they require dual authentication via their phone app. That's not even coming up as an option when QB tries to connect.

Hi there, noahintara.

We understand how important it is to link your bank account to QuickBooks Online (QBO) to manage your finances efficiently.

To begin, please ensure that the Multicurrency feature in QBO is enabled. This step helps ensure smooth management of transactions in foreign currencies and avoids potential issues.

Here's how:

1. Click the Gear icon, then go to Account and settings.
2. Select the Advanced tab. In the Currency section, switch on the Multicurrency toggle option.
3. Check the I understand I can’t undo Multicurrency box.
4. Select Save and click Done.

Since you are encountering the error message “User ID or password not working” when attempting to connect your Vietnam-based bank using a VPN, despite entering the correct credentials, it could be that the VPN provider is restricting the connection. I recommend temporarily disconnecting your VPN on your device and trying to reconnect your bank to QBO again without the VPN.

If the issue persists, I suggest contacting your bank directly. They can provide guidance on how you can set up and connect your account to QuickBooks Online (U.S.) and troubleshoot any restrictions such as two-factor authentication (2FA) or third-party integration limitations.

Keep me posted if you still have questions or QBO-related concerns. The Community is always ready to assist you.
