We are a non-profit and use a traditional bank account and have PayPal and Venmo set up as bank accounts in QBO plus. All three are linked to download transactions. When I review new PayPal transactions and click on one, it opens up with a Details and Add button. When I review my bank or Venmo I only have Split and Add.
The Details functionality is important for me with Venmo because it's a donation/sales receipt which I can't enter from a split. What is driving the appearance of the Details button? Is it the way I configured the accounts?
Venmo: Account Type = Bank, Detail Type = Cash on Hand
Bank: Account Type = Bank, Detail Type = Checking
PayPal: edit settings brings up a page with Chart of Accounts, Sales form content and Other sections.
Thanks for sharing the details and adding a screenshot, @RickD7696.
Allow me to share with you some insights about categorizing PayPal transactions in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
We use Detail from PayPal to help you decide what category to assign to each transaction. The details shown will depend on how PayPal has been used in each context. An example of this is how much detail a customer entered as they paid their invoice to PayPal.
For more information about this, you can check out this article for your reference: Connect to PayPal FAQ.
QBO will only base on the information pass along by your bank. To have the Detail option in categorizing your transactions, I recommend contacting your Venmo bank support team. There they can help you verify if they have a setting to display the Details button when downloading your transactions to QBO.

My question is why do I not see the "Details" button when I click on a transaction to review?
Thanks for posting here again, @RickD7696,
The information you see when categorizing Venmo transactions in a default action in QuickBooks. See this screenshot taken for a Venmo entry:
At the moment, we're unable to edit the preference in the Banking page. Everything you see there is the default command of the software.
Don't worry, if there are new updates for QuickBooks on how it handle Venmo transactions, it will be communicated through in-product ads. You can also check out these links to be updated with the recent and upcoming changes for our QuickBooks products:
