I can provide a few details on what happens when you delete or hide an account in QuickBooks Online.
If you don't want to see transactions from a bank account anymore, you can hide them. All of your data is still there, you just won't see the transactions anymore. This also stops QuickBooks from downloading new transactions. To hide the account, you can use these steps:
Deleting an account, on the other hand, removes all related data and calculations and you can't undo the process. Here's how:

Catherine_B, it sounds like you're saying that once those accounts are closed and no longer linked, I will lose all of those transactions. Is this correct? So, all of the bookkeeping I've done up to that point will be gone? How can I prevent this from happening? What can I do to fix this?

I'll share some information about switching bank account in QBSE. To keep your previous bank's data, you'll want to toggle the Show Account on OFF status instead of deleting it. This will prevent your old bank account from downloading new transactions into QBSE. Just refer to the above steps provided by my peer @Catherine_B.
After that, add or connect your new account. Check out this article for the step-by-step instruction: Connect bank and credit card accounts to QuickBooks Self-Employed.

My previous bank was acquired by a new bank. I cannot seem to find an option to use previous checking and savings registers with current, new bank. I can only find an option to start new registers. The option to "Edit Sign In" is not available. Is there a way to link the old checking register and savings bank register to the new bank?
