Allow me to help you fix your opening balance and reconcile your account, accounting.
To correct the balance, we have to undo the reconciled transactions. Since you have multiple transactions, you can invite an accountant to QuickBooks. They have the option to unreconcile them at once using the QuickBooks Online Accountant (QBOA) version.
Meanwhile, we can manually undo them using your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account. To do so, we can follow the steps below:
- Go to the Gear icon (⚙), then choose Chart of Accounts.
- Enter the account that needs to be unreconciled on the Search bar (Filter by name or number).
- Under the Action column, click View Register.
- Look for the accurate data. Then, click the "R" under the Check icon (✔). Keep on clicking until the box is blank. This removes the transactions from the reconciliation.
- Hit Save.
Then, you can enter a journal entry to track your opening balance. Refer to your bank statements to make sure everything is accurate. Here's how:
- Go to the + New, then select Journal entry.
- Enter a date that comes before the oldest transaction in the account. It will be the opening balance date.
- On the first row of the Account column, choose the account you want to enter the opening balance.
- Add a note in the Description field so you know what the journal entry is for.
- On the second row of the Account column, choose Opening Balance Equity.
- Use your bank statements to enter the balance of your real-life account on the date you picked as the opening balance. You'll need to enter both a debit and a credit to keep things accurate. Enter the debits and credits based on the type of account you entered on the first row.
- When you're ready, click Save and close.
Once done, let's mark the journal entry as reconciled.
- Go to Bookkeeping or Accounting, then select Chart of accounts.
- Find the account and select View register from the Action column.
- Search for the journal entry you just created. Select it to expand the view.
- Select the box in the checkmark column until you see an R. This reconciles the journal entry.
- When done, select Save.
Afterward, you can start reconciling your account again. Make sure to always refer to your bank statement when you reconcile.
