undeposited funds show up as debits in my check register

Not sure why I am getting the records of undeposited funds in my chech register as checks. They show with customer names individually after I have made batch deposits and they have been recorded in the deposit records/history.  Could this be something I did wrong in setting up my account?

undeposited funds show up as debits in my check register

Hi, Beth Tab.

I'm here to share some insights about using the Undeposited Funds in QuickBooks Desktop.

Undeposited Funds is simply a holding account that tracks payments received from customers that have not been deposited to your bank account.

QuickBooks Desktop automatically holds the funds in this account when receiving payments from customers. To clear the amount in this account, you’ll need to deposit those checks to the respective bank account.

If you didn't use Undeposited Funds, your ledger will show the individual checks. To ensure your account's workflow, you might want to double-check the transactions you've recorded if it's using the correct account.

Here's how:

  1. Go to your Chart of Accounts.
  2. Search for Undeposited Funds account.
  3. If you go to register,  you will see the specific payments/deposit included in the balance.

To know more about the Undeposited Funds account, you can check this article: Deposit payments into the Undeposited Funds account in QuickBooks Desktop.

Keep me posted if you have further questions. I'll be right here to help. You have a wonderful day!

You may have created a refund check to your customers. Or you created a bank deposit, that did not match with the total receivables, may be. The deposit should be changed to agree with the received payment. 🤔
