Let me help and route you in the right direction on how to move your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) transactions to the online version.

You can only transfer a company file within 60 days after signing up to QuickBooks Online (QBO). Also, importing your previous entries will override the ones entered in the online program.

As a workaround, you can either manually input the transactions or use a third-party application. This is to keep your records in order.

When entering your previous entries from QBDT into QBO, make sure to record them in the same order they’re created or received. This method creates a record of all the invoices sent.

Also, it will let you properly apply the credit and payment to the bill. Here’s an article that outlines the complete steps: Enter historical information.

If you opt to use a third-party app, allow me to help run a search for you in the QuickBooks Desktop Apps Center. From there, you can read customers’ reviews on how each app works.

You can browse this article to learn more about importing data to QBO: Frequently asked questions. Additionally, the following link contains resources that will guide you on how to efficiently handle any QuickBooks-related tasks: Self-help articles.

Feel free to add a comment below if you have additional questions or concerns about importing entries. I’m more than happy to answer them for you. Wishing your business continued success.

I would recommend another option. Open a new blank QBO account and migrate your data from QB Desktop.

Run the trial balance for both QBO accounts and make sure the ending balance on new QBO account = the beginning balance on old QBO account. Make adjustments/corrections if required. Then utilize a 3rd party tool to migrate data from your old QBO account to the new one. Otherwise, purchase a 3rd party migration service to help.
