When I am reviewing my bank transactions, I want to be able to add notes or attachments even though I am not quite ready to commit the transaction. Is that possible?

Welcome to the Community, jrk7352.

Yes, you can add notes or attachments to transactions in the For review tab. I’ll be glad to show you the steps on how to do this in QBO.
Here’s how:

  1. In your company, tap the Banking menu on the left panel to choose the Banking option.
  2. From the list, select the account you’re working on.
  3. Navigate to the For review tab and click the transaction to expand the line.for review.png
  4. Use the Memo field to add a note.
  5. Click the Add attachment link to append a document.for review.1.png
  6. Press the X icon to close the screen.

Here’s an article that contains topics about downloading, matching, and categorizing bank feeds entries. It includes a video tutorial so you can follow the steps easily: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to leave a comment below if you need help with QuickBooks. I’ll get back to assist further. Enjoy the rest of the day.

I tried by adding an attachment to a transaction. However, when I left the Banking | For Review screen and went to another screen in Quickbooks and then came back to For Review, my attachment was gone. It seems to only save while you remain in the For Review screen. I need my edits/notes/attachments to save permanently.

That works will I remain in the For Review section of Quickbooks. However as soon as I navigate out of that section my edits/attachments disappear. I need my edits/attachments to save permanently. Otherwise this is causing me a lot of rework.

I've got the steps you'll need so your attachments won't disappear, jrk7352.

When you add attachments to a transaction, you'll have to Match or Add them after to save them permanently.

The following instructions will help you save the attachments permanently into your transactions.

To learn more information on what transactions can keep attachments, please check this article: Attachments in QuickBooks Online.

I'm always here if you need more help navigating your account.

I do not see an Add button. At this point I am not ready to Confirm the transaction. I just want to add the attachment and come back later and Confirm the transaction.

There are times that local internet cache files stored in the system can cause unexpected behavior in the product, jrk7352.

The best thing that we can do is to perform some basic troubleshooting steps by following these procedures:

First, use a private window to access QuickBooks. This will prevent the use of cookies stored on the computer.

You can access this by pressing the following commands:

  • Ctrl + Shift + N (Google Chrome).
  • Ctrl + Shift + P (Firefox or Internet Explorer).
  • Control + Option + P (Safari).

If it works, then let’s go back to your browser and clear the cache. These caches of data are essentially junk files and can be safely deleted to free up storage space.

If the same problem occurs, try using a different browser. This can be an issue with the browser that you use and QuickBooks.

You can always find me here if you have any other concerns or further questions. Have a great rest of the weekdays. Stay safe!

The results are the same using an incognito browser session. The changes or save until I leave the For Review screen. If this is not how to product functions today, how do I submit this as future enhancement?

Hello again, jrk7352.

You need to categorize first the transaction from the review tab and from there you can add the attachment and Add it. Once done categorizing, it will go to the categorized tab. However, you can undo the transaction if you want to re-categorize them again.

We recognize that each company has unique needs, and I can see how these features would benefit and empower your business. Don't worry, I'll personally submit feedback directly to them.

Or go to your QuickBooks account click the Gear icon and select feedback

If there’s anything else I can do for you concerning your QuickBooks Online account, don’t hesitate to reach out again. I’d be glad to help. More powers to you and to your business!

When I match a transaction in the bank transactions. How do I keep the attachment such as the check image?

It seems to disappear when I do a "match". When I do an "add" it seems to keep the attachments form the bank.

Thanks
