When I go to reconcile my 4/30 bank statement, the beginning balance QB plugs in is not the ending balance of my 3/31 statement. How do I change that?

Thank you for reaching out to us here on the Community page, @hazel5.

The beginning balance issue shouldn't be a worry for you. We have methods to perform to get it corrected. I'm here to share them with you.

This usually happens if:

  • Someone entered an incorrect opening balance when you created the account in QuickBooks.
  • Someone adds transactions that are older than the opening balance and doesn't edit the original entry to reflect the change.
  • When you connect your accounts, QuickBooks enters the opening balance for you. Missing or duplicate transactions may affect the opening balance.

At this time, you can open the Reconciliation History and review the changes from there. It's one way to track the balance issues with your reconciliation.

Here's how:

  1. Click on the History by account link from the Reconcile window.
  2. Filter the account under the Account column and the dates under the Report period.
  3. Looks for the statement ending date, then tap on View report under Action for the details.

For additional steps and solutions, you can read the details from this article: Fix beginning balance issues if you've reconciled the account in the past QuickBooks Online.

Once completed, feel free to skim through the topics from this link in case you need references while working with QuickBooks or your reconciliation in the future.
