Where do I find the offset entry in QBO after posting transactions from credit card bank feed? Do I need to connect both checking account and credit card account to use the bank feed?

Good day, @LNN1.

Let me assist you on how to show your posted credit card transaction in the QuickBooks Online (QBO) bank feeds and locate the offset entry.

Yes, connecting your credit card or checking account to QuickBooks Online (QBO) is important to automatically sync the posted transactions to the QBO's bank feed.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Transactions tab, then pick Bank transactions.
  2. Tap the Link account in the right corner.
  3. Type your bank's name or URL in the Search section, then pick the bank.
  4. Enter your Sign info in the Login and Password fields, then click ContinueChoose the account you want to connect and the date to pull transactions from the Dropdown icon. Then, choose Next. Please know that some banks let you download the last 90 days of transactions, and others can go back to 24 months.
  5. Choose an Account type, then Next. Ensure to select an account that matches your chart of accounts in QuickBooks. You can click +Add new if you don't see one.
  6. After that, map the bank account in the Existing accounts section, then click Next.
  7. Tap Connect, then Done.

For detailed steps, check out this article: Connect bank and credit card accounts to QuickBooks Online.

You can choose not to link your bank account to QBO. Instead, manually input your credit card transactions. For more info, you can read this article: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online.

After uploading automatically or manually, the posted transactions will show in the Bank Transactions where the QBO bank feeds are located. Feel free to follow these steps:

  1. Go back to the Transactions, and select Bank transactions.
  2. Choose the credit card account tile, and check the For review section below.
  3. Click Confirm to categorize the imported transactions or Review to see if there are duplicates and Match them
  4. After that, check the Categorized section to see if the transactions are placed in the correct accounts.

Then, review the offset entry in the Chart of Accounts section. Then, search for the credit card account and click View register

Where do I find the offset entry in QBO after posting transactions from credit card bank feed? Do I need to connect both checking account and credit card account to use the bank feed?

Thanks for your response, please clarify that a checking account used to pay for the credit card must be connected to QB in order to reconcile the credit card using bank feed feature.

I'm thrilled to jump in and provide clarifications to you, LNN1.

Connecting the checking account to QuickBooks Online (QBO) allows you to automatically import transactions from your bank and credit card accounts into QBO, streamlining the process of reconciling accounts and managing your finances.

To answer your first question, No, your card doesn't need to be connected to QB in order to reconcile. As long as the accounts are entered in the Chart of Accounts (COA) and have transactions, you can still do reconciliation.

For your second inquiry, No, it's not a must. You can still use the bank feeds feature even if it's not linked.  To bring up transactions, you can do manual import or web connect. However, if your bank account is connected, it auto-downloads your transactions. This helps you to save time updating your bank feeds.

Hope I cleared everything for you, LNN1. As you continue your task with QBO, rest assured that I'll be on your side to provide guidance and support whenever you need it. Bye for now.

Where do I find the offset entry in QBO after posting transactions from credit card bank feed? Do I need to connect both checking account and credit card account to use the bank feed?

Thank you for your input, but it is not clear.  I have connected my credit card account and use bank feeds to categorize transactions in QBO, but do not want to connect  the checking account used to pay down the credit card.  Once I made the amount owed on the credit card statement, I record the payment on qb as a debit to a credit card account (liability).  How do I reconcile my credit card account if my checking account is not connected to qbo?

I'm here to chime in and share further details, LNN1.

Since you mentioned that you have already connected your credit card account, but your checking account isn't connected to online banking, you can still reconcile them by comparing your bank statement with the transactions in your QuickBooks Online company file. You can also reach out to an accountant for more accurate data.

Here's how:

  1. Within your left navigation panel, go to the Transactions menu.
  2. Choose the Reconcile option.
  3. Select an account that you'd like to reconcile.
  4. Compare your bank statement and the recorded transactions within your Reconciliation window.
  5. Put a checkmark right beside the amount if there are transactions that are matching.
  6. Don't put a checkmark on transactions that appear within your Reconciliation window but don't show in your bank statement.
  7. Click Finish now if there are no more discrepancies in your Reconciliation window.
