A warm welcome to the Community, frontdesk2.
As you enter a PO, you'll see that the status is automatically set to Open. This status will be automatically changed to Closed when all quantities or amounts on the PO are indicated to be received or paid across all linked transactions.
Purchase orders in QuickBooks Online (QBO) do not affect any of your accounts. Instead, they simply help you keep track of what you order.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to help you succeed with QuickBooks. Thanks for reaching out, wishing you and your business a great ahead.
I just realized that today. It has also 'unlinked' transactions from historical POs. This is a huge problem for us in our business.
When we cancel a PO, we close it on our end and that is how we know it is cancelled. If it is in billing or paid, then we click the linked transaction to find out the status, how, if and when we paid it. When we create a PO, it is Quickbook's number and how we keep track of purchases. When we create a bill, it's based on the customer's invoice# which we don't keep track of. The only way to find that information is by clicking the linked transaction in the PO. This is going to cause alot of headaches and waste alot of our time if they did in fact remove this feature from Quickbooks!
Hi there, frontdesk2.
Thanks for following up on this thread.
After researching this a bit further, I believe the transactions un-linking is due to a known issue. The engineers have been made aware and are working to get it resolved as quickly as possible. I recommend contacting a member of the Support Team so you can be added to the list of affected companies. Once you're added, you'll receive email notifications regarding updates and the fix. Here's how to contact an agent:
1. Click the Help button in the top right corner.
2. Select Contact Us.
3. Enter Support in the field and choose Let's talk.
4. From here you can select to receive a callback at a time that's convenient for you.
Feel free to reach back out if you have any other questions. I'll be here to help in any way that I can.
Thank you
This doesn't work for most business phones that have an auto attendant answer. I have requested several phone calls, but they never call, or the call doesn't get to me.
I have now been on hold with Quickbooks for 2 hours and 22 minutes. I spoke to someone and they have me on hold waiting for "that" department.
Thank you all so much for all the information.
Yes, I noticed that too. I am currently on the phone with them and it indicates for 2 hours and 42 minutes now. They are telling me that the PO has never had a link in it and there's nothing they can do. I told them I'm not delusional and that the link disappeared on Friday, but has been there for the past 4 years I've worked with this company. They are doing nothing so far. Ridiculous!
This is a HUGE problem for me too and I am getting absolutely no help from them in solving the problem.
This is not what we want you to experience with us, @eschmidt07.
I've checked that my colleague MariaSoledadG already added an answer to your post.
