Why can't I Connect to Fidelity?

The first bank operating account I was using (not Fidelity) would not connect to QBO. I have opened a new business account with Fidelity and now this account also will not connect! When I say connect I don't mean update, I mean connect at all - cannot establish a connection. QBO pulls up a list of banks, presumably banks they support. I search for and find Fidelity Investments and Retirement Accounts, log into Fidelity and I get a list of all my accounts - select the account I want to connect to QBO and get 

Something unexpected happened and we can’t connect to Fidelity - Investments & Retirement Accounts.

Try again in a few hours. (590)

 

I have waited more than a few hours and cannot connect. Is there a secret method required to connect to Fidelity?

Try opening your QBO account on any private/incognito browser. If the same error persists, you can use MT Online or one of the converter tools (e.g csv2qbo @ $60 one time license) as a workaround.

Thanks for bringing this matter to our attention, Race-MX. We know how important it is to connect your bank to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

 

To begin, allow me to share some information about Error 590. This error is temporary and only occurs when your bank is under website maintenance or updates, which lasts for a couple of hours. That said, I'd recommend connecting your Fidelity Bank to QuickBooks after 24 hours.

 

However, we can manually upload your transactions to QuickBooks if you require urgency with managing your transactions.

Why can't I Connect to Fidelity?

I also have been struggling with this error trying to connect to Fidelity.  I've been connecting to Fidelity for many many years as an accountant on multiple business accounts.  Something seemed to have happened on February 15, 2024, from my perspective.  I've tried incognito.  I've called Fidelity and they don't seem to see anything on their end, nor are there any issues.  I've called QuickBooks ProAdvisor help and they can't see any issues.  At first when I clicked "report this issue" in QBO an email came back quickly saying it was fixed, but it wasn't.  If I disconnect and try to link again, I get the Fidelity Access User Agreement popup and then I can see my list of accounts at Fidelity, but once I pick an account and it tries to connect, I get the 590 QBO error code.  This has been 3 weeks now.  The 24 hours and try again is hung.  Anyone have any other suggestions?

Upon checking here, we've received similar cases or reports about Fidelity not connecting properly (INV-100733).

 

If you haven't, I'd suggest contacting our Support Team to add you to the list of affected users and be informed promptly once the issue is resolved.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.
  2. Click the Help button at the top right corner.
  3. Go to the Search tab, then select Contact Us.
  4. Enter a summary of your concern, then click Continue.
  5. Choose a way to connect with us. You can either choose Chat with us or Have us call you.

SAME HERE! This product is CRAP. I lost my Fidelity connection a few months ago for quite a few weeks, it was resolved, and it just happened again. I hate that QB blames Fidelity every time.

 

It's not updating transactions as of 2/26/24. Once again, your reps are telling me this is a problem with FID, which wasn't the case the last time. FIX THIS!!!

I will call QBO support and talk to a human for the 2nd time about not being able to connect.  I have a minimum of 4 case numbers on this issue and will make sure that they are all linked to "INV-100733" as you suggest.  Case #15113534247, #15113534199, #15113534215, #15113534130.  The last representative I spoke with did not mention the "INV-100733."

The root cause appears to be that nb.fidelity.com website, when I go to directly, I can log in.  When I use QBO to link an account and it redirects me to that website I get a pop-up to have me give permission to QBO to access the data.  I don't get that popup when I login directly at the same web link.  I'm wondering if that is the root cause??  As a ProAdvisor, CPA during tax season, I would like to request that this issue be escalated.

@cmargerpositionwealth , I just called QBO support and asked for my 4 case numbers to be attached to INV-100733.  They told me that that issue was closed.  I asked when.  She said 3/5/2024.  So with her, we tested it and in fact I was able to reconnect the bank account!  Yeah!  I will now try with my other corporate accounts.  If you are still having an issue, the key is to bring up INV-100733.  Good luck and keep me posted.

FYI, INV-100733 was closed by QBO on 3/5/2024 and I tested it with one corporate account with a QBO rep on the phone and it does seem to be working.  Keep me posted if anyone is still having issues.  I'm going to try my other 3 corporate accounts.  If you don't hear from me within 24 hours it means all is working for me now.

I just spent the last 5 hours on phone calls and chat with them. My fidelity accounts are still not updating. They’ve escalated this to their “investigation team” and are going to keep me posted. They kept blaming the issues on Fidelity. I finally showed them a screenshot of where Fidelity has granted Intuit access to my accounts and the link is active. Fidelity also verified that everything is good to be sent to Intuit. Clearly Intuit has poor tech to handle this. They need to start using Plaid or another 3rd party account aggregator to handle this task. Does anyone have any other suggestions for online account services??? Early in the year could be a good decision to bail on these clowns.

Well two corporate accounts were able to connect but two others didn't.  Do you have a INV number that I can attach my issues to so that we can escalate this?  I'm going to wait until tomorrow just to make sure the issue wasn't that I tried to connect to 4 different corporate accounts with one login within about 30 minutes.

@cmargerpositionwealth I don't know if this applies to you, but as I drill in closer and closer to the many problems, I'm at the point that I have too many (more than 3) different accounts at Fidelity that I link to from QBO.  In my case I have 4 entities in QBO that need to access 5 different accounts at Fidelity. (1:1 for 3 of the entities and 1:2 for the 4th entity.)  Apparently, as of 3/3/2024 a new case was created on this specific issue:  INV-98142. If this issue applies to you, please call support and attach your companies to this new open known issue.

QB just sent me this email. Unfortunately they didn't actually check to see if it was fixed. This is the same crap they pulled last time, and it's NOT FIXED. Now I'm getting 2 error messages...590 and 101.

We are pleased to inform you that your issue has been resolved. The resolution has been implemented and this bank account should be ready for your use.

 

If you require additional information, please call QuickBooks Support at 1-800-488-7330 to speak with a support person directly or you can use the Help link found on the top right of any screen in your QuickBooks Online company. Please know our ultimate goal is to have you back to business as quickly as possible.  

 

Since it seems like you're experiencing a new error (error 101), let's try a few different things to resolve it. 

 

First, let's log in to your bank's website:

 

  • In a new tab or a different browser, sign in to your bank's website to see if you can still get in without any errors.
  • Ensure your account is active. (Your account is considered active if there’s an existing balance, or if there were transactions in the past 12 months).

 

If you have an active account but are unable to log in to your bank’s website, contact them directly.

 

Look for missed prompts:

 

  • Go back to your bank’s website and look for messages that need your confirmation (e.g. terms and conditions).
  • Acknowledge the prompt, then go back and refresh your account in QuickBooks Online.

 

If the issue persists, sign in to QuickBooks using an incognito or private browser, or try other browser troubleshooting options.

 

After completing these steps, if you are still experiencing banking error 101 after 72 hours you can contact the QuickBooks support team by signing into your QuickBooks Online account. Click on the Help (?) icon, in the top right of your account, then in the Search tab, hit Contact Us.

 

In the meantime, you can always manually upload your banking transactions. For additional details about this process, check out Manually upload transactions in QuickBooks Online

As I've mentioned a dozen times to your team:

-Accounts at Fidelity are active

-I can login to see those accounts

-I've tried incognito, different browsers, clearing cache, restarting computer, updating browsers, etc. I just retested different browsers and incognito and still didn't work

-Fidelity has record of giving permission for them to release data. My screenshots are in my case file.

-There are NO ISSUES at Fidelity

-This has happened before and the issue was with QuickBooks, not Fidelity

-Please don't send us updates that this case has been resolved if it hasn't been resolved. Unfortunately the last time this required a new ticket to be created and it took 6 weeks to resolve.

-You guys need to reimburse anyone affected by this for the days lost to this. Not to mention the amount of time wasted by us to try to fix your problems.

I was the OP for this thread. Shortly after posting the posting the problem I was able to connect my account with Fidelity and it worked ok for maybe a couple of weeks. The connection is now broken again and no updates to my account for 3 weeks. I too got an email from Intuit stating the issue was resolved yet it still will not connect. I was advised to disconnect the account in Quickbooks and reconnect, this did not work. I fear that when the issue is resolved and I'm able re-establish the connection it is going to create a new account instead of simply restoring the  connection to the original account. Can anyone confirm?

I have reason to believe that when it all works correctly, and all the issues are resolved, you will be able to select your same account in your chart of accounts to the bank link.  With that said, because this is a whack-a-mole situation, requiring Tier 3 support, all the issues need to be resolved.

I have checked and can confirm that the previously created ticket for this issue has been closed. However, I understand that the problem persists despite the ticket's closure.  

 

With that said, I highly recommend contacting our Support Team. This is to ensure that you receive the most accurate and up-to-date information about the current situation, as there have been recent reports of similar issues specific to Fidelity Bank.

Newsflash...QB just sent another bogus update that "action on your part is required". They're asking us to log into Fidelity, check if our Fidelity account is active, and to acknowledge any terms and conditions. All of this has been done. FIX THE BROKEN LINK! This is not Fidelity's fault. Not sure how many different ways we need to say it. Other third party accounting software is successfully connecting to QB. Please don't send us bogus updates until the problem is FIXED.

Why can't I Connect to Fidelity?

Mine is working, but not correctly...i have 2 FID accounts connected. When I refresh one, the other gives me an error message. When I refresh the other, it works, but the first then gives me an error message. I'm just going to log in once a week, refresh each, categorize my expenses, then move to the other account. Super annoying. Obviously this product is severely flawed.

Thank you for the update. That helps me narrow down my issues. I still can't connect to 2 of my 5 Fidelity accounts that map to 4 different QBO accounts.  It appears that currently you can only simultaneously link up to three Fidelity accounts to 1-3 QBO subscription accounts.
