Why does my PayPal bank import ALWAYS show the wrong informaton? It started happening about 2 or more months ago.

Each time I update my bank acounts the Pay Pal account picks up a random business name and assigns it to every downloaded item

Why does my PayPal bank import ALWAYS show the wrong informaton? It started happening about 2 or more months ago.

Managing your PayPal transactions in QuickBooks Online (QBO) is my priority, wtucker5162.

QuickBooks depends on the banking data that PayPal provides. You can verify with them if they've implemented updates on their bank feeds. This way, the correct business name entries will show on the Banking page accordingly. Also, we can add the Bank Details column to see if they've included the details of your transactions. If they do, you can use Bank text in your rule instead of description. To add the column:

  1. Click the Gear icon above the ACTION column.
  2. Place a checkmark in the Show bank details checkbox.
  3. Click the Update button to refresh it.

 If the same thing happens, we can perform some troubleshooting steps to fix this issue. Web browsers save cookies and cache them as files in your system. They’re small in size, but over time, you can accumulate a lot of them. When that happens, your web browser must use more and more power to properly load saved web pages causing unusual behaviors in QuickBooks.

We can start by using a private window to access your QuickBooks Online account. This will help us in isolating the issue since this mode will not save site data. Check out the shortcut keys that I've listed below:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari 11 or newer: ⌘ + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P

Once done, let's try to access your bank register again. If it's now working well, we'll have to go back to your regular browser and clear the cache to get rid of the accumulated junk files. If you still encounter the same issue, we can use other supported browsers. It could be that the one you're currently using right now has a temporary problem with QBO.

In case you have an extensive chart of accounts, we can assign numbers for your accounts to keep them organized and easy to find. Also, I've attached a link you can check to learn how to import PayPal transactions manually in QuickBooks: Sync with Paypal: Manual import overview.

Don't hesitate to drop a comment below if you need more assistance with syncing PayPal. I'm always here to help. Take care always.

@wtucker5162

Utilize the trial version of MT Online to isolate the issue. It is designed to import into any bank or credit card in QuickBooks Online, so there is no specific setting needed.
