I'm finding that with the recent updates that began over the last 24 months and culminated with the recent major update, entering transactions in my bank feed is excruciatingly slow. It's as every click of the button requires 2-3 seconds of processing from the QBO website.
I have 2 questions:
1. Is it possible to simplify display/new features such that I can just enter transactions and categorize them in a timely manner? Quickbooks Online is just so slow when it comes to the bank feed these days.
2. It seems like it's trying to auto-categorize, auto-add a class, etc, EVERY time I edit a transaction. Half the times, the suggestions are wildly inconsistent and/or just plain wrong. Can I turn these features off? It is not helpful at all.
I must say, since using Quickbooks Online over the past 3 years, I've noticed a steady decline in performance. It seems to get slower by the day. To the point where it's really impacting my quality of life and job efficiency, since it now seems to take 3-4x as much time to do simple tasks while waiting for Quickbooks to complete them, and then undo any errors caused by Quickbooks.
Is there anything I can do to optimize the performance? The performance is just terrible. And I have a brand new computer! Please help. Thanks.
It's a browser based application. It'll never be fast.
I'm not sure why it's gotten that slow (an Intuit employee will no doubt blame your browser within an hour or two), but generally even with a fast internet connection QuickBooks Online is glacial compared to Desktop.
I can see the importance of having a seamless experience while using QuickBooks Online (QBO), @bookkeeper4life. Allow me to walk you through some troubleshooting steps and address your queries.
QBO is expected to load the most used pages in more or less 10 seconds. However, it depends on the operating system's compatibility, the computer or device’s processing power, the amount of available memory (RAM), and the bandwidth of your internet connection to perform as intended.
With this, you can verify if your browser meets the system requirements and run a Google Speed Test to confirm the bandwidth or speed of your internet connection. Here's an article for more details: Why is my QuickBooks Online slow?
On the other hand, the option to simplify display or add new features specifically for the banking area is unavailable. We only have two display preferences available, the Business and Accountant view, to help simplify the workspace so day-to-day tasks like sales and billing are easier.
Moreover, concerning the automation happening in your bank transactions, you may have turned on the Enable suggested categorization feature or you have active bank rules. Please know that the information populated in the transactions is not random, and the system bases it on your categorization history.
To disable the suggested categorization:
If you have active bank rules and you want to disable or delete it, follow the steps below:

@GebelAlainaM "QBO is expected to load the most used pages in more or less 10 seconds."
That is not something to be proud of.
I am sorry that you had to find out this way, but it just isn't.
Also, wasn't the party line 'QBO is expected to load the most used pages in less than 10 seconds' before? Are you actually admitting that QBO is getting even more terrible?
I am also finding QuickBooks online to be getting slower and slower.
10 seconds is not a reasonable amount of time for data to appear.
I find that whenever I click on something, I see the Quickbooks waiting icon dancing for a few seconds before anything happens. This just seems like a strange design. Everything I do is redrawing my entire page again instead of just showing me the data I requested.
This is not the way SPA (single page applications) are supposed to run.
For a company as large as Intuit, they should do better.
Ever since they went to this new design, it's been absolute trash. Things I could do in seconds now take minutes. As soon as I can find a better solution I will dump them.
Same issue here - categorizing 1000+ bank transactions is a nightmare - transaction loading / categorizing is ridiculous. Never have experienced software this slow.
Internet connection is 290Mbps and running a state of the art computer....Nothing more annoying than when tech support suggests it is the computer not the crap software.
Lets not even mention no keyboard shortcuts.
Even worse, when typing in actual acct number to speed things up QBO still tries to highlight their suggested account requiring extra steps even though you tell the software exactly which account to use....Terrible experience.- See pic

UNBEARABLE
10 seconds? What an absolute waste of time. Worst part, we're paying Intuit to waste our time, which results in costing us more money. Websites across the globe load faster than this horrific program/site and I'm on a 1Gbps download/upload connection. Also, spare us with your 'Feedback' suggestion; we all know those get ignored.
It is impossible to work , super slow - Quickbooks wanted to add so many features and now it results expensive and inefficient.
Yesterday I logged into a QuickBooks Online, which I only use for testing, to help a customer. I think I waited almost 5 minutes for the login process to complete. It's absolutely nuts.
I'm on the road all day long and have been using the QuickBooks app. Same problem there. Many times I'll get an error prompt saying that they can't perform the task requested. This is an ongoing thing with QuickBooks. One problem after another and when you rely on this software to run a business it's extremely frustrating.
Error prompts can often be caused by cached data in the QuickBooks mobile app. To fix this, let's clear the app data of your mobile device to reset the app to its default state. This process plays the same role as clearing the cache from your web browser.
For me, 60-120 seconds to load a page is fairly standard. RAM usage in the tab is typically >1gb. I would love it if Quicken could give us a straight answer about how much stuff QBO is dumping into RAM.
Look, if i need to buy a new machine, I'll buy a new machine. The problem is, if I buy a machine with more RAM, will QBO recognize that and simply dump even more stuff into RAM.
Obviously considering alternatives to QBO.
Intuit just needs to come clean on this and provide complete answers, and not just throw us noise. We need some signal.
@FPCNS At this point, I have to wonder if QBO's userbase isn't powering Intuit's Bitcoin mining or whatever they're doing instead of improving their product.
I suspect they've tasked their servers with mining Bitcoin. Ha!
For whatever reason, they are unable or unwilling to speed up QuickBooks Online by about 10x, which would make it actually usable. Still terrible, but at least it could keep up with a person.
Ever since they added all of the updates for AI and their new Enterprise Suite things haven't been working right at all and are super slow. I constantly have to refresh the pages as well. It is really annoying and frustrating to deal with as it takes more time to do things than normal. Also, they continue to update and mess with things to "improve" things, yet we are nearing the end of the year/beginning of next and accountants truly don't need this hassle.
Wish they would stop!
It's a huge problem and bites into my billable performance as well as a bookkeeper with QBO client base. My utilization is probably 70% considering pages and forms don't refresh instantaneously as they do with QB Desktop. I am learning about Dynamics Business Central implementation and am seriously considering moving some of my clients over. I have worked on the Dynamics/Azure stack and it's faster. Intuit seriously needs to do some soul-searching and fix its cloud infrastructure.
RE: My utilization is probably 70% considering pages and forms don't refresh instantaneously as they do with QB Desktop.
But you get to do your accounting in a browser, with your data at the mercy of Intuit stored somewhere in the cloud, which is the coolest thing ever, right?
