I agree it would be great to make this integration happen. Allow me to chime in and assist you with your banking concern in QuickBooks Online.

There's no update yet regarding the Quickbooks/AMEX business checking integration. The duration of the request doesn't only depend on QuickBooks but also includes your financial institution's decision.

I highly recommend sending a request via banking to streamline the process. We'll forward this information to the necessary support team on your behalf.

Here's how:

1. Go to the Banking menu or Transactions menu.
2. Select Add account.
3. Search for the name of your financial institution. If QuickBooks is unable to find your bank, you will get the message, "Hmm, we can’t find [name of the bank you entered] in our list of supported banks," and you will be presented with helpful tips to try and locate your bank account.
4. If you’re still unable to find your bank, select Request support for your bank.
5. Enter your bank's web address (URL) in the field provided, then select Request.

While waiting for an update, affected users can still upload transactions manually. You can download a copy of your statement on your bank's website and import the bank data into QuickBooks.

This is absolutely horrible customer service and speaks volumes to QBO desire for customer retention. This is not a 1 year issue to fix. If I have to upload my own CSV, why am I paying Quickbooks?

Strange I'm unable to like comments but perhaps my reply will work.  There has to be a reason I can connect literally every other business checking account to my clients, but not AmEx BUSINESS checking.  Is there some 'deal' requirement AmEx isn't willing to concede to or vice versa?  The functionality of this cannot be some insurmountable programming issue.  Very frustrating to take on a new client, pay the same fees for her service, and not be able to link her account.  This is taking time, and thus money, from pros persuading their clients to use QBO.

I hear your sentiments, @crystalchd. Let me step in and share information about why you can't find or connect to American Express Business Checking in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

In QBO, we may have difficulties searching and linking to a bank if it doesn't connect to all types of accounts (like personal accounts vs. business accounts) and if it's not a participating financial institution. 

Additionally, the reason why we're unable to connect to American Express Business Checking is most likely because Intuit doesn't yet support it. Our engineers handle updates to our online banking processes, such as support for banks that aren't affiliated with us. That said, we're incapable of providing any information about how long it might take, and there's no guarantee that an agreement with American Express Business Checking will be reached. As of now, we're unable to provide additional information since they're working on it internally. 

Furthermore, they issue official updates based on the volume of requests they receive from your financial institution. Follow these steps in your QBO account to request bank support: 

1. Go to Banking and select Add account.
2. Search for American Express Business Checking. You'll get the message, "Hmm, we can't find [name of the bank you entered] in our list of supported banks," if QBO is unable to locate your bank. 
3. Select Request support for your bank.
4. Enter your bank's web address (URL) in the field provided, and click Request.

Alternatively, we can download transactions from your bank's website and manually upload them to QBO. 

Moreover, I'd recommend reconciling your bank accounts monthly to ensure they match your bank statements. This way, we can guarantee that your books are accurate and balanced.

I have put in the QBO request to support the connection to American Express Business Bank multiple times over the past two months. This suggestions does not seem to work very well; seems like a delay tactic to me with no really outcome.

I think I found a solution. If you enter American Express (Non Card Account Types) 

as the bank name it will link with your American Express Business Checking account. I just need others to test this out and make sure it’s the solution we are all looking for. I was able to select the checking account from the list of American Express accounts I have and it appears to be syncing correctly. The bank name option was very low on the list and I had to select load more several times. I hope this helps others.

Might work but this is the error message im getting

"Looks like the connection to American Express (Non Card Account Types) isn’t available right now.

"I don't know who we should hate more--American Express or Quickbooks?"

I was dissapointed when I began to read the thread but glad to find this at the end. 

I was able to link both my business checking account and business credit card to QB.

I'm not certain how you figured this out, but Intuit/AmEx should consider compensating you for resolving countless concerns and complaints.  Nice job.

The only additional consideration I might add to make this easier for linking accounts; please note that you may need to type in the full "American Express (Non......" and then it should populate.

For some reason even after typing in the full American Express (Non Card Account Types) I still do not see it. Is everyone else still able to see it?

When I typed in American Express there were only 10 options and this was not one of them. There was also no way for me to load more options.

I got in! I was able to connect by credit card and business checking accounts. I had to use American Express (Banking). In order to get it, I copy and pasted the URL link to the login page and then it brought up that option.

This option worked for me (using American Express (Banking). Not sure why it does not come up as an option when you just type "American Express" though. Something wrong with their search engine. Thanks nnnnnnn

It is very interesting that now in QuickBooks Online I look up the bank link and it displays as American Express (Banking) instead of American Express (Non Card Account Types). It appears that someone at Intuit changed American Express (Non Card Account Types) to American Express (Banking). Someone at Intuit probably came across this thread and said to themselves that (Banking) is a better name than (Non Card Account Types) which it absolutely is seeing as it lists my card accounts too with that link.

Same here. No luck. It seems to be hit or miss. Another factor may be I'm trying to do it on QBDT instead of QBO. 

I've tried typing both variations - non card and banking - and it's not showing up in the online banking assistant's list of financial institutions. 

Tried just selecting plain old American Express, but when I go through the motions it tells me all my accounts are already set up. 

I found American Express (Banking) on the list of banks but it was not able to pull my account.

I spoke with American Express customer service yesterday. They are still not integrated with Quickbooks for their checking accounts. Also they have no ETA for when this feature will materialize. Boo!

You have to paste the URL into the QBO search for it to come up. I was able to set up both of my checking accounts yesterday.

But we want to make sure that we would be able to provide you with the best that Intuit QuickBooks Online has to offer. It's not a matter of whether Quickbooks will support American Express Business Checking. It's about whether American Express will allow its business customers to link their business checking to Quickbooks and other software like Quickbooks. I heard it from the horse's mouth today (i.e., AMEX) as their customer support person confirmed that American express is not allowing AMEX business checking to link with Quickbooks or any other tools like it.

What I find very frustrating is that Quickbooks posted an update to the AMEX bank connections claiming that it was for security purposes and didn't advise that our link to the business checking would be broken for good. QB said that we would have until the first week of April to use the updated link. I thought I'd be proactive and update my connection and broke my connection to my AMEX business checking in the process.

I spent a considerable amount of time this morning in a chat with QB support to troubleshoot. Shouldn't QB know whether or not a bank will allow customers to link their account with QB?

At any rate, I'm posting this so that no one else spends considerable time trying to figure out this problem. AMEX customer support wasn't able to tell me if they will allow their business checking to link up with QB in the near future.

Thanks for the update and detailed information. It seems like the customer support teams on both sides are left in the dark on what is actually happening. From reading this thread it seems like the only solution is to use a different checking account, or a different bookkeeping service, or both.
