Cannot import. Not enough disk space or too many records exist.

Hi team,

Requesting help again.

We're getting an error message while trying to upload CSV file (in QB Accountant Desktop 21):

Cannot import. Not enough disk space or too many records exist.

Already checked the disk space and cleaned up the Temp folder.

Thank you.

Let’s perform some troubleshooting steps so you can start the importing process in your QuickBooks Desktop account, @passworddude.

I appreciate your effort in cleaning up your disk and Temp folder. We can then continue with removing programs you no longer use

If you still need space, consider moving photos and documents to an external hard drive. Follow the steps on the Delete personal files or move them to an external storage device section of the Microsoft guide: Free up drive space in Windows.

You'll need to contact our Support Team if the error persists after following the above instructions. They can securely access your account and diagnose the issue. I'll show you how:

  1. Go to the Help icon, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Press Contact Us.
  3. Enter a description of your subscription concern, then click Continue.

See this article for our operating hours to contact us promptly: Contact QuickBooks Desktop support.

Your patience and understanding in this situation are much appreciated. If you have any other questions you need help with besides the error, you can leave a reply below.

Hi @JamaicaA
First, appreciate the note.

Secondly, what is the possibility that CSV file has either bad data or contains wrong format? How can we find that out?

Hello, @passworddude.

Let me share some insights about CSV files that may contain bad data or be in the wrong format.

You may encounter this error when the CSV file's format is incorrect, or the template doesn't meet the specific requirements. Please note that the maximum file size is 350 KB.

If the file exceeds the limit, shorten the date range and download transactions in smaller batches. To know more about how you can check the format, check out this link: Format CSV files in Excel to get bank transactions into QuickBooks.

Additionally, missing info can also be caused by several factors. We can also consider the interrupted connection. When there are connection faults during the download process, some transactions won't be downloaded successfully. When importing your bank transactions, there are certain factors to consider.

To ensure accurate data, it's a good idea to open the CSV file using Excel and check for any missing bank details or extraneous characters. If you're unable to open the file via Excel, there are some troubleshooting steps you can take to ensure you can view and edit the file. By following these steps, you can avoid any issues that may lead to inaccurate data.

@passworddude

Use the trial version of an importer tool to isolate the problem.

If the same error persists, run the Verify/Rebuild Data utility. Did you encounter any error message?

This message appears when one of your lists is maxed out. Usually the names or items list is the culprit.

If you open the F2 window in QuickBooks, you can review your list sizes in the lower right portion of that window.  What are your list sizes as seen there?

@JamaicaA  The message rarely if ever has anything to do with drive space. Which you should know.

Hi @BigRedConsulting - appreciate your reply.
You mean the total classes? Its 96,453.

Question: Instead of deleting and merging duplicate classes; do we know a more permanent solution to this?

Hi @ArielI - appreciate your reply also.

The file sizes are less than 250 KB. We think its the Classes that's causing the issue

@passworddude

Are you working on a QB Desktop Enterprise file?

Is it your own company file or your client's?

@passworddude  RE: You mean the total classes? Its 96,453.

It appears the class list limit for Enterprise is 100,000, but I don't think anyone ever expected anyone to get close to that. Usually company files have a handful of classes. Or maybe 100.

How is it at all useful to have 96 thousand classes in your file?
