Desktop App for QuickBooks Online Support Ending

How extremely disappointing that support for the QBO Desktop App is being discontinued. They state that is due to lack of use and that they will be able to focus on other improvements, but I believe the lack of use is due to lack of promotion. I was using QBO for over 8 months before I found out there was a Desktop App for online. The App allows a user to have multiple companies and multiple tabs open at once, while in the browser version of QBO, the user can only have one company and one view open at a time; this is very inefficient. I think if QB had made a better effort to inform QBO users of the benefits of the Desktop App, more users would have used it. Who in their right mind prefers to close one company and log into another in order to switch between companies rather than clicking from one tab to the other? Who prefers closing an invoice they are working in to view details of the company or details of another invoice or any other scenario where you might need to view more than one thing at the same time. I'm dreading having to go back to a single view program, it will be so daunting and inefficient. Not a good move QuickBooks... very disappointing. QBO paired with the desktop App was the best of both worlds, ability to access on the go from any browser, but the efficiency of the desktop windows. I sure hope the developers have something fantastic planned to make it worth losing the efficiency of the multi window functionality.

Great news to everyone who has viewed my post, Intuit has launched a new solution. I was just served up this video https://youtu.be/ml658zYcF4A on how to use QBO as a desktop or online app. The flexibility of this new/revised feature will allow us the options we were upset about going away; multiple tabs, multiple companies, browser or desktop, and the ability to use a desktop look and feel or an online look and feel. Thank you Intuit QB for bringing back this functionality. I have seen many improvements over the past two years in QBO (especially reporting), and am happy you are listening to your users needs.

I hear your sentiments, @JustineEFI.

I appreciate you sharing your thoughts here with us. This action is part of our prioritization process to focus on working to make innovations and enhancements to the browser version. The desktop version is still accessible if already installed, however, this will no longer be updated with the latest features. That's being said, it's recommended to access your QuickBooks Online company using a supported browser.

For your reference, please see this article: QuickBooks Online Mac and Windows Desktop App update.

I also encourage you to visit our QuickBooks Blog website for more product enhancements and updates.

As always, feel free to post here again if you have any other QuickBooks-related concerns. I'll be right here to lend a helping hand. Take care always.

Would you members the QB team stop telling us to use QBO via our browser?  Why are you saying this? The desktop app is 1000% more efficient to use; your statement that your discontinuing it is due to "limited use" is a joke...there's no way it's use is "limited". You're telling us to stop using a desktop app that increases our efficiency 1000% and go back to using a software that makes it really incredibly inefficient and time-consuming. Please stop, it's offensive. Clearly, you're going to be charging somebody something to develop something like this and/or you'll make it available in a version that's $20 more per month than I pay now. Just be honest about it and stop offending our intelligence.

You would think they would of reached out to us before making this decision.

And I agree with you, I hope they have an update for the browser version that solves this.

Not telling us is not cool at all.

Telling us to use the browser version is outright insulting.

We know all about the browser version and it can't compare to the desktop version.

How about you come to our office and actually run a set of books day in and day out and see how you like it.

I completely agree!

Does anyone at Intuit realize how much more time we are going to have to spend now?

What took 10 minutes, will easily take an hour now having to go one view at a time.

How could they treat us like this?

Your Prioritization process - what a laugh.  We are furious over this, after switching to QBO from Desktop.  The QBO workflow is terrible, with no multiple windows, having to juggle with other web window activity, repeated logins....arrrrrggggggg!

The ONLY think that makes it bearable is the app which separates it from the regular browser and deals with the other issues?

WHAT IF I WANT TO FLIP BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN CUSTOMER LISTS AND VENDORS?

WHAT IF I WANT TO SIMULTANEOUSLY LOOK AT CUSTOMER AND PURCHASE ORDER LISTS / VENDORS?

WHAT IF I WANT TO HAVE MULTIPLE COMPANIES OPEN AT THE SAME TIME?

The product has not even been fully abandoned yet, and I already cannot open multiple windows in the app, and I need to log in again if my computer goes to sleep and loses connection.

You are pissing off your small business client base, Intuit.  I do hope you consider rethinking this CRAP CUSTOMER SERVICE DECISION.  We are less than 6 months into what was a very rough conversion due to "known issues" and considering what our next platform will be besides QBO.  Seriously.  That's how much you are letting your customers down.

Do you care?  Seriously, do you?

Hello @Staltimber. Thank you for coming to this thread to offer your feedback. It's truly valuable for us to understand how this change impacts you and your business. I can promise every decision made by Intuit takes into account our customers and their preferences, but I understand in this case it took away some important features for you.

I highly encourage leaving feedback and giving us suggestions on what we can do to improve your experience with QuickBooks Online within the browser. Here's how to do that: How do I submit feedback?

Again, thank you for taking the time to do this and help us create a better customer experience.

If you considered everything, you would of reached out to us, those who are using it and talked to us, but you didn't.

You could of sent out an email to those of us who use it and ask us, but you didn't.

If you want to make the crappy browser experience better, make it do what the app did.

Multiple companies opened at one time, always on and bring in all the quick keys that are in the app.

That's it.

Any questions?

Why do you need someone to tell you that you need it needs to do some fundamental things? Do you not have any accountants that you go to test these things? Do you not use it yourself? Does an Intuit employee really sit there and use it and say "yes, this is fun....to switch back and forth between the balance sheet and income statement and journal entry screens I need to just keep hitting the browser back key, this is so enjoyable and easy to move around this software". Really? You need me to tell you that having multiple tabs and windows like the desktop version and the desktop app is an improvement? Either you're not very bright over there at Intuit or your "please feedback" suggestion is really a smokescreen for something else. It has to be one or the other...you can't say w/ a straight face that a company as large and profitable as Intuit needs external accountants to tell them how to make their software better. My guess...it's money. I bet we'll see that kind of functionality in a version that costs $20 more per month than we're paying now.

I agree. They have made QBO ridiculously hard to use if you're trying to multi-task between different functions.  I'll be looking for another accounting option.

K Kiman what kind of response is this?

Every decision made by Intuit takes into account their customers preferences?

Are you kidding?

Go leave feedback on how to make things better? Really? The desktop app is it.

You already did it and you stole it from us.

What other feedback do you need?

Come on K_Siiman, step and stand up for us instead of giving us this company line.

Same here.

I didn't even know it existed until I found out about it after a year of using the browser.

Well Divina, maybe if your bosses would just tell us that those enhancements are going to include the features the Desktop App has, we wouldn't be so upset right now.

Even then, what they should of done is just enhance the browser and then phased out the Desktop App.

Not sure how you can make these comments in all good conscious.

Perhaps it's because you don't have to use the software and are not faced with having your productivity’ slashed.

Total agreed, it is very disappointing. Desktop App in multiple devices was a main reason for making this choice. The multiple tabs was very convenient. in fact the multiple tabs option on IOS mobile app could have been even better with some added features like making transfers and other entries etc

I totally agree with everyone else.  I work for a CPA and use multiple tabs every time I open a QBO file.  If you could see the messes that I get from my clients, you would not put me back to the browser version.  It is absolutely necessary to have multiple windows open.

From the comments that I have seen, I think it would be worth your time to look into maintaining this app.

I want to add my voice to those that are very disappointed to have the app discontinued.  One of the best features of QBO is being able to have multiple windows and even multiple companies open at once.  The browser option takes this feature away completely.  It is disappointing that Intuit would take the app away without more input from the accountant community.

Discontinuing support (eventually discontinuing the app) is a very poor decision by Quickbooks.  We have moved numerous client to QBOnline and will have to consider other products if we cannot easily switch between companies and pages.

I agree with you 100%. The app is SO much easier for me to use, especially since I can have more than one tab open at the same time which helps work efficiency. I hate using the browser version and I'm shocked they would even end this. The browser version pales in comparison to the app. Might be time to figure out another accounting software because I'm not going to be able to deal with the browser version much longer.

I got the notice today and am quite pissed off about this. In 4 years of having quickbooks I've only used it online once when I was on holidays and I've found it much more difficult to use online, and much slower. not to mention the fact that having the desktop icon reminds me to do my books whereas now I'll have to open a web browser to do my books. Does anyone know how we can send a direct complaint to quickbooks? Or what other accounting software is out there that is comparable?

I am extremely disappointed the desktop version of Quickbooks will no longer be supported. I use the desktop version exclusively for all of my accounts. The online version forces me to log in every time, use the 6-digit code every time, and it logs me out while I'm in the middle of working. It sounds like it might be time to find a new platform for my client's accounting and payroll needs.

The QBO desktop app can already no longer allow files to be attached. This makes it useless for us.

It gets all the way up 100% uploaded, but then it doesn't complete the process and you can't save the record, because it says it's still uploading.

You should fix this. It's the least you can do.'
