QuickBooks Desktop

Currently I use QB both as a Small Business Owner and an employee at a small corporation.  As the Staff Accountant QuickBooks Pro 2020 is still functioning for our purposes. Presently we are able to export the daily Sales activity from our POS software.  We have not paid for an upgrade and from other companies in our industry using the same POS the online integration/export is not working properly.  Before our POS upgrade we had used QB year 2011 for a long period of time with no problems.  Can anyone tell us if our 2020 Desktop will continue to work?

As a Small Bookkeeping Firm, I have used the Accountant's Desktop QB for many years (when Quicken was Dos based).  Currently using QB 2017 - 2022 on my computer depending on client's QB version.  Intend to semi-retire and find that I will have to pay an additional $250+ next year or my software with the history of various companies will not open.  Then I spoke with someone else at Intuit and was told any online services such as cc processing or payroll processing will not work but could still access company file.  I would appreciate clarification on this matter as well.   Thank you, Linda

QuickBooks Desktop

Hi Linda, I appreciate you taking the time to post your concern here in the Community forum. Allow me to elaborate on the things you need to know about QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2020 service discontinuation.

All QuickBooks Desktop 2020 versions have already been discontinued after May 31, 2023, which includes QBDT Pro 2020. If you weren't able to upgrade by the said date, you won't have access to live technical support if you run into problems or any of the other Intuit services that can be integrated with QuickBooks Desktop. This includes QuickBooks Desktop Payroll, QuickBooks Desktop Payments, and online bank feeds. This also means you won't receive critical security updates protecting your data.

If you don't use any of the add-on services in QuickBooks Desktop 2020, it'll continue to work for you or you can still access your company file. With regard to your online banking, your connected bank accounts can no longer pull up your latest transactions.

For more details about the discontinuation, please refer to this link: QuickBooks Desktop 2020 service discontinuation policy.

That said, I'd suggest upgrading your QBDT to a compatible and newer version or moving your QBDT company file to QuickBooks Online for greater flexibility and collaboration. Either way, it still depends on you.

Furthermore, I'll share this article to learn about the features included in the QBDT 2023 release and how you can utilize them to your company's benefit: What’s new in QuickBooks Desktop 2023?
