I appreciate you following up on this thread, a7soni.
Currently, there isn’t a specific time frame as to when this feature is available. QuickBooks aims to find new ways to make sure that your product meets your needs.
As a workaround, you'll want to search for a third-party application that integrates with your desktop version. Here's how:
The system displays the list of applications available that matches the description you entered and are compatible, and designed to work with QuickBooks Desktop
While that feature isn’t currently in our development roadmap, we are working on big improvements that will be helpful for the majority of our customers.
You can visit the What's New section on your QuickBooks Desktop, to be updated with our latest news and updates including product refinement.
Additionally, I recommend visiting this link: Resource Hub. This will provide you with resources and videos about managing your QuickBooks Desktop account, income, expenses, inventory, and running reports.
Please let me know if there's anything else you need. I'll be more than happy to help you in any way I can. Have a lovely day!
You can add barcode fonts to your windows folder. Local Disk:C/windows/Fonts. In that folder add truetype fonts and you can now use a barcode as a font in QuickBooks and put it on Purchase orders and work orders. But QuickBooks doesn't have a encoder that makes the barcode scannable so you have to use a 3rd party software at the moment or at least I haven't figured out a better way. What that means is you will have a barcode on the work order but the barcode isn't scannable. For example code 39 font for a barcode to scan lets say numbers 1234. They need to be in the barcode font as *1234*. Code 128 is even more tricky that you cant just put an asterisk in front and back of everything you want to scan.
The work around,
Use this website as an encoder - https://www.bcgen.com/fontencoder/
And type what needs to be scanned into the "data to encode tab" and then copy the encoded text and paste that into where ever your template calls for a barcode.
I'm still working on figuring out a better way than this since its not automated and is more data entry but its all I got for now.

I'm now using QB2022 and still find barcoding not getting the attention it needs to be competitive with competitors. I love using QuickBooks and being pushed into the barcode world by our customers. We need barcodes that can be added to packing slips at the invoice level, not the sales order level. They could be added to sales orders and when creating an invoice from the sales order they will carry over. They could even be added at the Estimate\Quote level and be able to transfer up to sales order and invoice during the processing steps. I also need to find how to customize the barcode labels I need to print. I would like to use our Item Code and not the Description. Some discerptions get long, over 50 words, item code are short and sweet. I would also like to have our Company Name print at the top of the barcode label. We use a Zebra Thermal printer. I do not see any templates available for just creating the barcode labels layout that could be adapter for the thermal printer. We have to create several barcodes of our own also because the items are custom made and currently do not have barcodes assigned.
Will I need to switch to third party software to create my barcode labels?
Good evening, @JackWindPower.
Thanks for joining in on this thread.
Yes, that's correct. In your situation, a third party app would be the best route for your business. I'll pass along your feedback to our Product Developers so they can consider this in the future.
You can always keep up with what's new in the product through our Blog site.

Why is this such a big issue?! I was just going to switch to QBO, because the current software I used downsizes the images, so even PNG files won't scan for invoices. I can't believe this "feature" has been requested for years, and won't be implemented. A dev can make this work in a few days and it would benefits many thousands of customers (and perhaps bring in new ones). Intuit, seriously, what are you doing?
You could always print the barcode on a label and affix the label to the PO
Yes, but that's incredibly inefficient and tedious. I'd rather have a high res PNG or vector file that could be scanned by the receiving party.
Did you end up finding a solution to the issue or creating an app for it? If so, I would be interested in purchasing it. I just need a way to put assembly bar codes on templates like POs and Sales receipts. Please contact me if you do find a solution, thank you.
Has QB Desktop developers just blown this off ?? Barcoding is very important to my business and it would be very valuable to be able to print barcodes on templates. I don't understand their stubbornness or unwillingness to listen to their customers. I'm tired of hearing the same old answer that I should look for a 3rd party software.
Please let us know if you will even consider this.
Thank you for joining the thread, @jp9669.
I understand the importance of barcoding in your business and it would be very valuable to be able to print barcodes on templates. Let me share an insight about this feature you want to have in your QuickBooks account.
Currently, the feature too. For now, adding barcodes to templates is unavailable, I recommend sending feedback. Your feedback will help us improve your QBDT experience and will be shared with our Product Development Team.
Here's how:
For more details about the feedback process, you can check this article: Submit feedback.
Lastly, I've got you these helpful articles for ideas about managing your account and transactions: Help Articles for QuickBooks Enterprise.
You can drop a comment below if you have further concerns about the barcodes or other QBDT-related concerns. I will answer them in any possible way.
I cannot understand how QuickBooks continues to push this off. With so many customers requesting it, it makes me wonder what, if any, customer requested features actually have been developed and implemented by this so called 'Product Development Team'.
This is a very simple request, that is clearly in extremely high demand.
Team - Please, what do we need to do to get this request escalated and implemented?
I understand how beneficial it is in your business to be able to print barcodes on templates in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), MattAPS.
While this option is currently unavailable in QBDT, I recommend sending feedback directly to our product engineers. We highly value your suggestions and consider them while making product updates.
Feel free to drop in anytime if you have questions about the status of your product request or any QuickBooks-related concerns. We're always here to help. Stay safe.
