How do you see how much is left in the budget of an account for the month?

We just set up our first ever budget. We noticed though that there's nothing in the Chart of Accounts that shows us how much is remaining in the budget as we spend from it for the month. How do you get it in an easy to access spot so you don't have to run a report after every expense to make sure you're staying within the budget?

You can run and filter the Budget vs. Actuals report. It compares the budgeted amounts with the actual income and expenses. It provides a clear overview of how your actual financial performance aligns with the budgeted expectations. 

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Go to Reports and then type in Budget vs. Actuals.
  2. Click it and then select Customize.
  3. In the Report period, add the correct dates.
  4. Make sure the correct account is selected under Filter.
  5. Click Run report.

 

Once done, you can export the report to Excel. Then, manually calculate the remaining budget for the month.

Yikes.....YNAB it is lol. That's no solution, that's a huge time sink.

I understand the importance of having the feature to view how much is left in the budget of an account for the month, EthanDale.

 

As of now, this functionality is unavailable in QuickBooks Online. As a workaround, I recommend following the steps shared above. It can help you manually calculate the remaining balance.

 

Since this hasn't been added yet, I encourage feedback directly to our Product Development team. Doing so helps us improve the features of the program. I'll show you how:

 

  1. Go to the Gear menu and then select Feedback.
  2. Type in your feature request in the description box.
  3. Once done, click on Next.

I feel it's an extra step that most people feel should be done right in Quickbooks. We put our budget in for that reason

We just gave up on the budgeting side of QuickBooks and started using YNAB for it. It's a godsend, and a breath of fresh air. We started using it and thought "This is what software is supposed to be used like..."

 

We're currently looking into a transition as a company into Freshbooks as well. QuickBooks is just such a steaming, useless, pile of garbage at this point.
