Making a parent customer into a sub customer

A customer tree can have 5 levels (including the parent) so move the customer then edit the sub customers to display the way you want

@Rustler is correct. You can add the new parent customer, and simply edit your previous top-level customer to become a sub customers below this.  
So, currently, you have:

1. Parent Customer A

•       Sub Customer B
•       Sub Customer C

Since Parent Customer A was bought out by a new company, they will become a sub customer to your new addition. So then it’ll be:

1. NEW Parent Customer

•     Parent (Now Child) Customer A
•           Sub Customer B
•           Sub Customer C

Here’s what you would do:

1. Add your new top Parent customer.
2. Edit the customer that was once the parent customer to become a sub customer. 
3. Select the Is sub-customer checkbox.
4. Enter the sub customers info.
5. In the Parent▼dropdown, select the new parent account. Tip: Select Bill with parent or Bill this customer if you want to bill sub-customers individually or as part of the group.
6. Select Save.

You can have unlimited sub-customers, and parent accounts can have up to four levels down of sub-customers.

How  many parents can a sub-customer have?

It's important to stay organized and keep track of your customer. I'm here to provide a few details about this, luislizardi.

In QuickBooks Online, you can have one parent account but can have up to four levels down of sub-customers. You can create a regular customer account for the group or organization. Then, add each member or account as a sub-customer. Let me guide you how:

1. Go to Customers.
2. Select New customer.
3. Select the Is sub-customer checkbox.
4. Enter the sub customers info.
5. In the Enter Parent customer dropdown, select the parent account. Select Bill with parent if you want to bill the customer with the parent, or select Bill this customer if you want to bill sub-customer individually.
6. Click Save.
