We are a manufacturing company and want to take some of the manual work out of tracking time. We have many employees that have very specific tasks that we want to record the time of. They switch through multiple tasks throughout the day. I've seen some standalone software that can manage these types of setups but I'm wondering if anyone has found a third party add-on for QuickBooks Desktop that can handle this type of request. We use build assemblies and sub-assemblies in QB to control our inventory so it would ultimately be something that can access that through an API.
Something like NetSuite but no need for the CRM portion or the robustness of that software. We just want to create Pending Builds and allow our workers to press a start/stop button that would calculate their time for each task.I look forward to any ideas you might have!

Since you've mentioned that you want to track the working hours of your employee as they work on their job, you can subscribe to QuickBooks Time (QBT). QBT allows you to take control of everything by managing timesheets, as well as managing your team. You'll also have the ability to track job progress by collaborating in real-time. In addition, your employees can also easily clock in using a smartphone, computer, or time clock kiosk.
You don't have to worry since although this is a website, you can integrate this into QuickBooks Desktop using Web Connector.

Thanks @IrizA But this app has none of the functionality that I need. I don't need something to track employee hours or to manage payroll, time sheets, or anything of that nature. QuickBooks makes the production environment useful to a point, but when it comes to manufacturing and production, BOM tracking for manufacturing of specific Build Assemblies, Sub-Assemblies, time studies and machine time, it falls seriously short.

I can recommend a 3rd party manufacturing app to explore but it only supports QB Online.
We use Autodesk Fusion Operations (previously called Prodsmart). it will do everything you need and more! Here is a link to see if it will work for you, it also offers a free trial.
