Join nowI am unable to open receipts that I have scanned and uploaded from the QB Desktop mobile app. I am using the QBD Mobile App on my iPhone 13 to scan receipts and upload them to my company file, and Quickbooks Desktop Pro Plus 2024 for Windows. Once scanned, I can find the receipt and "Save & add to register" from Vendors > Receipt Management. However, when I open the newly-added transaction and click on "Attach File" and then double click the attachment, I am prompted for a program to open the attachment.
I'm guessing it has to do with the mobile app creating the image as an HEIC file rather than a JPG, but I don't see any way to fix this. Does anyone else have this problem? I can see in QB help that QB doesn't support HEIC files but the links for instructions on how to convert the files are not helpful.
Hi there, CaryMc. I can show you how to upload your receipts in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) successfully.
Let me provide additional information as to why you're having challenges opening your receipts in QBDT. When uploading receipts, use image formats such as JPEG, JPG, GIF, or PNG and PDFs. Also, consider converting your HEIF or HEVC images to a supported format if using an iOS device.
Here's how:
You can also change your camera settings on your iOS device.
Here's how:
After changing, take a picture of the receipt using the app. Then, delete the HEIC formatted images to avoid duplicates.
If you need assistance in changing your camera settings, you can contact Apple Support.

Hi RhoiceW, thanks for the information. If I understand correctly, you're saying I show go into the Photos app on my phone (or to icloud on the computer) and convert them to the correct format. The problem is that the the QBDT mobile app doesn't save the images to my photos. I assume they are only saved somewhere in QB files. Where do I go to retrieve the HEIC file so that I can convert it?
I also wanted to mention that I would prefer not to change the camera settings on my phone everytime I want to upload a receipt. Thanks.
Let me explain where you can retrieve the file and when using your camera settings, Cary.
As @RhoiceW mentioned, QuickBooks supports PDF, JPEG, JPG, GIF, and PNG images. You can convert HEIC images to a compatible format before uploading the attachment to QuickBooks. This way, you'll not have to change your camera settings every time you upload a receipt.
Also, QuickBooks attachments are stored in an Attach folder next to the company file. Within the Attach folder, there will be nested folders and the first one is the company name. This is the connection link between your company file and the QuickBooks attachments.
If you happen to move the company file or rename it, the connection link will not be visible and will no longer display the QuickBooks attachment until it is corrected. You'll want to attach them to the correct folder so you can retrieve them easily.
For more information, you can check out this article to guide you in converting HEIC images to a supported format. You can find the detailed steps under the Sharing and Converting this media section. Convert HEIC Images To A Compatible Format.

I have not been able to get QB Mobile scanned receipts to upload to my accounts. Nothing ever matches. It always reads that my vendor is not on my vendor list. They are all already included on my vendor list. It keeps defaulting to the last 4 digits of my debit card number from the receipts, but when I change it to my checking account from the drop down list, it does not save my entry and defaults back to my debit card number. Intuit needs to add the ability to add a scanner back to the 2024 Pro Plus program. I stayed on the phone with Support for more than 30 minutes and even they couldn't figure out why all my "transactions" failed. This is such a waste of my time and effort.
