Quickbooks Online is not “terriblr”. It F’ING SuCKS. They changed the entire look of the software from something that was easy to use to something that only a computer geek could use. That changed all the menus, all the report formats. They changed the general ledger format and made it hard or impossible to reformat certain things when you download it into Excel. WHY would anyone in their right mind do this? I repeat…..Quickbooks Online F’ING SUCKS.
I hope everyone complaining about QB Online can see this - I have been QB Desktop user for 26 years. Updated my license only when required, but was forced online last week once payroll support ended for Desktop Pro 2020. Went to QBO Essentials and IT IS AWFUL. Called to potentially move to Enterprise, and GUESS WHAT??? They still sell Desktop Pro in Plus and Premier versions but DO NOT ADVERTISE OR PROMOTE IT. Navigate to www.quickbooks.intuit.com/desktop and get your life back! It is subscription based now, so yes it is $550 per year - that hurts but at least i can have actual accounting ability again!!
So I held out as long as I could before having to switch to quickbooks online. Once Intuit cut off MY quickbooks access to MY bank account, I had no choice. As a 25-year user of desktop versions, let me just say, what a load of crap this platform is. Additional key strokes, non default enter key, archaic reconciliation, and I don't even use it for Payroll...can't imagine that nightmare...I've got so much less to work with in this platform that I'm paying a fukin monthly ransom for, it has slowed my normal pace to a fukin crawl to do my normal banking, and not if, but when internet issues occur, I'm screwed since they now own my information. If I have to learn anew, might as well do it where I'm not held hostage...anyone with a good experience on another platform, please elaborate, cuz it sure aint here.

Intuit has steered off course. They are no longer a "customer needs" based business, they are a self-serving tyrant who cares only about lining their pockets. For 25 years I was a happy customer using Intuit Quickbooks Pro Desktop, fast, reliable, ease of use, limited keystrokes, everything I could want in a platform that I buy, update every 3 years, install on MY computer where MY information resides in MY possession, not dependent on someone else's "cyber security" in the cloud...utter BS...AND to be charged an exorbitant amount of money for a sub-par platform where everything is ala cart? And the platform is total garbage compared to desktop and they will offer you a "hot-line" to an expert for an additional monthly charge to help you figure out the piece of crap platform they force people to use because they disabled all desktop bank access. They are holding everyone hostage...
Did you use QB Desktop 2020 for a single user license?
Yep, that's the last desktop version I used, the one they disabled
If you don't mind using the trial version of QB Desktop, you can use it for good to keep the bank feed feature working.
That's all I need, bank feed and I'm set otherwise...Thank You!

@Matt Bachman RE: Quickbooks Online is absolute garbage. It is hands down the worst platform I have ever used.
I think it has gotten worse since you wrote this two years ago. I use if from time to time to test our tools, and each time I log in it looks different and it seems harder and harder to understand and use.
I 100% agree with you! After 30 years in bookkeeping, I can say this is the WORST accounting software out there and the customer service is totally non existent. I hate QBO with a burning passion.
You should switching to QB Desktop.
Yes, a wise move!
Yes, walkout on QB. They have lost their credibility.
Yes, you would love to coerce your customer base into paying monthly for a product that does not function instead of having one that customers can buy once and use without the endless (and shameless) up-selling and push marketing. It is remarkable that QB is constantly In My Face trying to sell me more of its useless software when they cannot even get the basic functionality to perform correctly. The system behaves differently every time I sign on to use it. YOU PEOPLE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES!
Have you switched to QB Desktop?
That's the baseline!
Yes, I hate it. They do not care either. Basic things like Statements and Invoice customizing (because their limited standard formats are horribly vague for customers).
You're spot on, Matt. QBO is an irredeemable mess. And Intuit makes it painfully clear that it DOES NOT CARE how awful their garbage software is. They know it AND they don't care.
Want proof of this? During a QBO support call yesterday, the rep told me plainly, "Don't use the Quickbooks Online Accountant app. It doesn't work. Use a browser instead." Even Intuit's own employees are telling their customers how utterly unreliable QBO is.
Dear Intuit...your limitless greed is not a business model.
QBO has progressively gotten worse. You no longer have the option to approve your bank charges if QuickBooks payments are used. Online Payroll, you might as well use ADP as you have 0 control over your payroll or fixing issues, It took QBO 6 months to amend a 941 that they submitted incorrectly. Constant menu changes and updates, if you're an accountant every client has a different menu. Above all the most annoying thing for me.... The constant popups... Oh try this, oh let's help you create a rule that you don't need. Every screen has some kind of pop you must exit out of.
What's your biggest complaint about QBO Online? Post it and then start evaluating other Accounting Solutions and let Intuit know where you will migrate.
I'm evaluating NetSuite, CS Accounting, and Sage IntAcct which is the preferred Accounting software of the AICPA.
THE ONLY THING INTUIT WILL LISTEN TO IS THE CASH REGISTER, LEAVING FEEDBACK IS MEANINGLESS!!!
I can not agree with you more. I absolutely despise this online program. I used the desktop version for years with NO problem. It is Dec 31st today and the last day I am using this aggravating program!!
I agree. I hate the online version so much. My invoices are messed up and I can not fix them, can not run end of the year reports. Used the desktop version for 16 years with NO problems. I have complained to no avail. I will find another program and cancel my online subscription.
You have described the garbage QBO perfectly...spot on correct with every criticism.
I want to share a story about QBO support to demonstrate just how awful this software is and how Intuit knows this to be 100% true. While using the stand-alone QBO Online Accountant app to access the software, I kept experiencing errors in various modules of the program. Frustrated by this and the seeming inability to get around it, I called QBO support. Stunningly, the rep assisting me asked, "Are you using the app or a web browser?" When I told her I was using the app, she said "Don't use the app. It doesn't work."
Despite being flush with cash from their greed-driven business model, Intuit are so cheap as to refuse to embed a recognized browser in their QBO Online Accountant app. They use an open-source java browser instead, knowing that most banks (especially the largest such as Chase, BofA and others) refuse such browsers when logging in. That means users cannot connect bank feeds using Intuit's own app. That MUST be done using a recognized name-browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge)
Intuit doesn't give a **** about its users, the UI or UX, or the quality of the product. They care ONLY about the cash. You could not be more correct when you wrote, "THE ONLY THING INTUIT WILL LISTEN TO IS THE CASH REGISTER, LEAVING FEEDBACK IS MEANINGLESS!!!"
