It would be nice if you people would just bring back scanning. You have 19 pages of complaining customers and not one word from your company addressing the issue at hand. Why is that? I had an issue not long ago about opening up my attachments and your tech department couldn't figure out the problem. The first tech just hung up on me for no reason and did not call me back. The second tech tried but simply couldn't figure out the problem. I eventually figured it out and fixed it myself. I was unable to open my attachments for a week which was a major problem. It was a fairly simple fix but I'm not a tech. The scanning was a very important feature to many of your customers. Picture taking is not an option for most. The workaround takes several steps and is time consuming. I do not understand why your company dismisses so many complaints. Your lack of concern for the small businesses you designed this program for deserves to be acknowledged for the amount of money you charge.
I second this - very very well said. We selected Quickbooks because of your features which included scanning and now you have removed it with seemingly zero concern.
Ok, so I updated my Quickbooks desktop online version 2021 to 2024. I've been dreaded this for 2 years. I waited until the last day. I tried the mobile work around and the document would not upload onto my quickbooks.
Since right networks hosts my software I have been able to scan my documents on my computer and email them to myself. Then in right networks log into my gmail mail and download the document into intuit. From there I can attached it to the customer account or attach it to an invoice and email it with my invoice. It is a couple of extra steps but it works.
What she said.
This is the DUMBEST change I've ever seen. People purchased the DESKTOP version for a reason. Because they wanted to do everything from an actual computer on their desk. If we wanted to also use our phones, we would have bought the online version. Now we need two devices and more steps to attach a document that we previously were able to attach with one click of the Scan Manager button. Whoever thought this was a good idea, has never been an actual bookkeeper sitting at a desk doing the job.
2024 DOES NOT HAVE SCAN MANAGER
@Sharon8975 Howdy what do you mean by that? You can still attach documents by dragging a scanned file or email, but the direct attachment via your scanner is long gone, yes.
I have to say...I am almost finding the new way easier than before. But then again, I have 4 computer screens.
So I make a folder to dump all my scans into and tell my scanner to open that folder when I save the document. Folder opens, drag it over, done. It is a decent work around.
Cheers!

That's what I am doing, but it is counter productive. Too many steps to attach a receipt.
Should not the QB users be asking Intuit why they created this problem in the first place? Why has Intuit never put out an explanation as to why Scan Manager was removed? The fact that they haven't done so, to my knowledge, speaks volumes about the company and their relationship with their customers.
Well, I have 14 users, and we scan many documents. Without the direct scan into Quickbooks, life has become challenging. We scan multiple documents containing several pages. In May 2024, I was forced to switch from QB Enterprise 2021 to the 2024 version with no scanner.
I have tried to communicate with Intuit several times and have failed. Intuit has ignored all my email messages and voicemails.
It is so terrible but
They have in earlier posts
" the main 3rd party company that owned the scan portion of Quickbooks is no longer doing this function, "
The 3rd party company that provided it no longer does. The info is in a past post.
@Marie-Cars Its not like its a choice, sadly. And trust me. QB isn't going to change. We attach a lot for billing, so while my scanner is scanning to another folder, I send out the bill. Maybe its just an illusion of efficiency.
@TonyL6 yes and I forget how I found that out. Nuance who provided the imaging software to scan sold to Microsoft and then it was crickets...and Intuit dropped scanning. They took away loan manager too
There is a different alternative that I used years before QB had free attaching of scanned documents. When that feature first came out, you had to pay for storage. So I used a program from a company called SourceLink. It's still out there for someone looking for alternatives. www.personable.com is the website.
Clutterbug, I have not been able to scan into Quickbooks for years now and I am still irritated about being forced to scan and save my documents on my computer then attach into QB. It is time consuming and irritating. I find nothing faster or easier about this situation and I only have one monitor to look at. If I had a choice, I would find another accounting program to use but it is not my business. They have used QB since yr 2003. So, we do what we must do but there is always someone complaining in this office about scanning on a daily basis. Quickbooks is degrading to cut their own cost and fatten their bottom line. If they truly cared about their customers, they would read all the complaints and rectify this issue. And for goodness sakes, who's bright idea was it to take pictures or documents. That is not an option for most. This was not improving the program. Grrrrr.... now I'm in a not so much happy mood. Not your fault. It's just how I get when discussing this issue.
clutterbug I would love to tell you something privately. I think you would like what I have to say.
@Sharon8975 I do get how you feel. I had steam coming out of ears back in 2022 and delayed upgrading until it was about to be cut off for QB Payments last month. And it would be VERY frustrating for one screen. Maybe hit up your boss for a second monitor? it makes a world of difference and is easy to do! It is so much more efficient than toggling all day. Tell your boss with two screens you can do more work and it justifies the expense
I know they aren't going to listen to us...and I'm too heavily invested with 3rd party custom software additions into QB to make it jump through the hoops we need for our business, to change. So I'm just trying to show people there is a way to continue to do it with a few extra clicks.
You can shoot me an email at [email address removed]
@Sharon8975 oh I see my email address got edited out.

without all those spaces obviously
You can put your email address in your profile.
@Dei Trading thanks.
Reefseeker, we pay $500.00 a month. I don't know where you get the figure of $800.00 a year.
I know this is late to the party, but did QB give a reason for this absurd move. Did they take a user survey?
Just had to vent my frustration for them adding extra steps to my process.
My accountant just installed Desktop Plus 2023 and there is no scanner option to attach files. I am so very annoyed!
Hi there, @aguyette.
I know how convenient it is for everyone to scan documents to attach them to a transaction. However, the Scan Manager was discontinued starting in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2022 and later versions, and it was replaced with Attach Documents.
For QBDT 2023 or later versions, you can use the QuickBooks Desktop mobile app to upload your documents to the system using your mobile device. You can then add them to your invoices, purchase orders, or other transactions.
Also, QBDT supports PDFs and images in JPEG, JPG, GIF, or PNG formats. To use this feature, you need to download the QuickBooks Desktop app.
Please refer to the links below on how to download them based on your device:
After that, you can start uploading your document from your mobile device. For complete guidelines, please refer to this article: Attach documents to transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.
