That definitely is the reason, I did research. When you go to scan and the green 'box' opens, it says by Nuance Omnipage. Now google Nuance.com sold. Microsoft bought it in 3/22. Clearly MS and QB ain't talking.
We are extremely disappointed in QB getting rid of the scan manager and no reasonable solution available. We will be doing the workaround of scanning to our computers and then drag/dropping the file into the attachments.
For those of you wanting to keep 2021 please be aware that QB is going to stop supporting it in May of 2024... in just 3 months... This means your QB WILL NOT WORK. You will be locked out.
We are upgrading next month but are also looking for a replacement so we'll see...
Tell us of your replacement when you find one!
So, I've found an easy route with the scanning. I don't have the time or the will to go back and look at all of these posts so I don't know if it's been mentioned or if it would help any of you...I just open my scanner app on my computer and scan my documents to my scanner file and drag and drop to attach to QB. I vaguely remember how scan manager worked but this method isn't cumbersome at all. I just know that we tried QB online and THAT was a total fail. Not a fan! Hopefully I'll be retired by the time they make things more difficult in an effort to get everyone to go the online route...or they have a LOT of work to do!
Intuit is a software company, none ones believe they can’t make a scanning software if that’s what they need to make this feature work. Is like you build cars and now don’t have tires because the tires company close, if that was the case and you want to stay on the business of selling the same car you will find another tire company or create your own, simple as that, unless you want the same customers to move to a different transportation mode that you are also building. We need to realize that everything moving to the cloud is a big risk, from every one who wants your information having the way to have access to it, up to the possibility of you losing access or the data itself. Wake up.
Many feature go away on May 31st for the 2021 software.
There is a very obnoxious warning that keeps popping up, that you cannot get rid of are very annoying.
I know emailing invoice with payments will not work after. I can try 2020 to see if they work, but I am slammed today.
Take care
It will work until Windows will not support it anymore. I just emailed an invoice from 2020.
What will not work is Payments, Bank feeds and Payroll,
Good luck:)
We went with SAP, the parent company's platform. Of course, there were other reasons that justified the cost (i.e. vastly superior software to QB). We were allowed to stay with QB but the Scan Manager fiasco and Intuit's inexplicable behavior in reaction to the complaints, pushed us into the arms of SAP.
I too would like to know. Intuit is a professional organization that has a large user base. Accordingly, every move must have large financial implications, such as royalties paid to partners that supply software features like Scan Manager. I would imagine they have done the calculations and customers who use the scan manager features and the like are no longer their target market. Suggest searching for an accounting program that better fits your needs. I was thinking that Microsoft might or should have an alternative to QB?

The Number one Reason we can't move to ONLINE QB's is Memorized Transactions. We live and die by them. Online does not have this feature
Might be time to just write our own software and only need to create what we use.
WHY would the memorized transaction feature be eliminated in the Online QB?
I have not read good things about online which is the reason I have not changed to it though Intuit obviously wants everyone to. Then make it a good product, darn it.
QB on line is a joke!
wow! 100% 1 star reviews and I'm sure people would have chosen ZERO stars if given the option. after reading just a sampling of the problems people have had, i feel fortunate that we use enterprise desktop but do not use payroll or allow QB to process our payments... and now to see how so many products are being discontinued and people forced to go with online with less features and capabilities!! BUT i am not being complacent - i know that things can go south for us at any moment and that's why we are already searching for an industry specific replacement program.
...and intuit is trying to fight to not allow people to file their taxes for free directly with the state or fed!! remember that intuit makes tax software...
this is ridiculous!
I have to agree, I wasted 3 days trying to get my data online. Even with full time help of Quickbooks people. It was a few years ago, I gave up and never wanted to try again.
Maybe for someone who is really small it might be a good choice and starting from scratch
Reefseeker and others for this scan/drag/drop workaround, do you then go back to where your scanner saved it locally and delete that file? Because if you don't, you'll eventually have 2 copies (scanned file and attached file in QB) taking up space. Tedious to go back and delete, and while space may not be an issue for some, it could add up quickly. Just curious, thanks.
Does anyone know if Quick Books might bring back Scan Manager ??
I personally DO NOT want to use my personal cell phone for work business.
The mobile app is a total pain. One invoice at a time is very time consuming.
I know it's been discontinued for a bit, but I thought the company might listen with so many customers
voicing negative opinions about the mobile app. Worth a shot
After several email messages to QuickBooks and Intuit corporate office, I did not receive any answer. Now I have given up. I did upgrade my QB from 2021 edition as 2021 was the last edition that had scanner support.
Good Luck!
Curious if anyone has found another program other than quick books for their accounting software? I admit I am a novice when it comes to quick books, I've only been using it for about 4 years. I have the desk top version, that I really like, tried the online version and oh my goodness, it was terrible. I've read about Intuit phasing out the desk top version, is that for real?? I finally feel a little comfortable with using it and now they want to change/discontinue. I'm old, my mind is not what it once was, why oh why do they have to change things. I was also extremely upset when they took the scan manager away. I for one do not enjoy using my personal phone for business things and on top of that, the quality of the documents "snapped" is way below a scanned version.
I posted a work-a-round that I actually like better than QB's. using scanner. I even made a video here.
Not a big deal.
Carl
The fact that you had to create your own "work-a-round" is testimony to the declining product that QuickBooks has become. All businesses that require a serious accounting system will eventually need to leave the QuickBooks platform. It is still a mystery to my why Intuit made this move in the first place (dropping Scan Manager and other functionality) and their lack of adequately addressing this issue with their customers.
Yep, they don't care.. From what I understand they loss the LC to use what they were using. Plus they really do not understand how their customers use their software. Self help is faster than waiting on them.
Carl
I've read about Intuit phasing out the desk top version, is that for real?
I believe they will release QB Desktop 2025 Enterprise on schedule. QBO users still need QB Desktop to export their data to TurboTax.
@Reefseeker your work around is exactly what I had figured out to do when I upgrade from 2021. In fact, for all the naysayers out there, it's faster because of the amount of time the old software within quickbooks downloads the scans. I have a fast scanner. Quickbooks internal scanning software lags behind and I have to sit there and wait for all the documents to appear. Reefseekers method is faster. My computer can keep up with the scanner. So to scan to another folder and drag the document over is a good solution.
Also, the reason QB discontinued it is because Nuance imaging (which is the software driving the scanning in QB) sold to Microsoft. The issue is more that QB didn't bother to replace it but came up with an idiotic solution of using your cell phone, clearly not thinking ahead about HIPPA laws and what not.
So @Reefseeker , I cheer you on for telling others of the work around.
I'm heavily invested in QB. I have custom software written for our company that goes into QB and can raise prices on yearly contracts etc, so I'm more or less stuck. None of us like doing workarounds, but if you can do a short workaround to achieve the same result? and continue to work with a program you're familiar with, perhaps while you seek a replacement...why not?
