We had Premier Plus Contractor Addition 2018 and was forced to renew to the 2023 version due to 2018 not being supported with updates.
Do you need to run any add-ons? e.g QB Payroll, QB Payment?
So you made a post in January 09, 2024 06:53 PM to @prbrown09 about options. This is essentially what the very nice representative told me today.
His repsonse:
1. Purchase the annual subscription Desktop Enterprise Gold Platnum for $1620. This platform does include the payroll functionalities.
2. Keep the Quickbooks Desktop Pro Plus 2021, however it will just have calculating capabilities that include data entry and reporting. It does keep all my records so that I can access them. I will have the payroll module, however it will not get updated. So I can use it to keep track of things and for the 2 employees I have, it will "record" my transaction after I manually process it. It should generate a "check" based on the employe and tax data I enter, but that data will not be updated from any system. So I will have to manually enter the data and file my EFTPS and quarterly/annual forms. I also loose any bank downloads or uploads, which I did not use. I manually enter in all banking and credit card transaction because we are that small of a business.
3. Go to another program.
Overall, the representative was not trying to "sell" me products, which was great. He was providing information on the best course of action for my small business.
For those in a similar situation:
1. I have multiple companies that I keep track of. All of them are small and fewer than 4 employees, if any.
2. I use quickbooks mainly for a checkbook register to include reporting.
3. I barely use "Enter Bills" option. I generally enter data directly into the chart of accounts check register.
4. I do use the "create Invoices", "Create Sales Receipts", "Receive Payments", "Record Deposits", "Reconcile", and "Statements" options. However, I rarely email invoices, so for those occasions I do, I can convert to a PDF file and send them through my email. I do not need to have tracking capabilities for that.
5. My main purpose for QB is to record check register transactions, Keep track of customer invoices and payments, general accounting reporting, payroll is a nice feature, but I can process on my own for the cost.
6. I do not download any billing transactions from credit cards, and we do not accept credit cards (and if I did I would manually enter the data).
7. I do record online payments from Zelle, Paypal, and Venmo, but I enter those as I would a cash/check.
8. I do loose the option of sending my data to the accountant. Not sure he'll be happy about that, but he isn't covering my costs, so he will have to manager.
If your small business is similar to mine, then keeping the basic desktop options may work for you. I hope this was helpful!
Keep the Quickbooks Desktop Pro Plus 2021,
Do you have QB Desktop 2021 Pro Plus or QB Desktop 2021 Pro? Login to your CAMPS to make sure.
I am a one man C-Corp. I have been using QuickBooks Desktop for 20 years. My cost just a few years ago was about $250/year. Last year it was $550, which was a significant increase, and this year it was almost $700. So I cancelled. And yes, I feel disregarded by Intuit. I have been a loyal customer for two decades but that means jack to Intuit. Screw them, I'm out.
We have had the Premier Plus Contractor Edition and I am on phone with them now - we had to pay $1500 last year and it is now $1661 - NOT HAPPY!!!
QB Desktop Premier Plus for 3 users? You can renew it for $1,575 (tax exempt) via a partner + you can get $100 cashback.
Ummm, that's the problem. $1575? Really? Outrageous pricing.
Intuit doesn't mind offering that outrageous pricing. If you don't accept it, they will happily suggest you switch to QBO.
Look at bookkeeper. I found it on Amazon
I am still exploring it but they have a way to import your quickbooks.info into their system to make it easier to move to their software.
You just have to do it before your quickbooks is cancelled.
Looks like they have their own merchant service also. I literally just set up the business account.tonight so I can not tell you much about it.
I alos am locked out of quickbooks because I have not renewed. Can't afford 650.

You can use the trial version to access your historical data for good.
The new annual charge this year for the desktop version with no payroll for one user was $655.49. I called to ask why the huge increase, and the custom service rep. just told me that is what it was. I was told I could cancel and then upload the new online version that was being offered for $249. If I were to do that I would have to start over with a new license number. I didn't do it for I was afraid that the business information wouldn't get transferred over. The fact that a new user can pay $249 but a loyal user has to pay more than twice as much, doesn't seem right.
$249 for a new QB Desktop license or a new QB Online account?
DONT DO IT
Don't change to QB Online. I did and regretted it. The interface is NOTHING like Desktop. Entering time data for my company usually took under an hour on Desktop. Online it took SEVEN hours. part of the added time is the lag after every line entry. I could provide more examples, but it frustrates me to even think about what an utter horrible package QBO is.
After one month of use I mad the decision to go back to Desktop. It took months to transfer all of my accounting data back to Desktop, and repeated requests for refunds for online services I was being charged for even after cancelling the online service.
They make it easy to switch to QBO and tell you can go back - but they don't have a committed team to help you do that. Their agents are either trained on QBO or QBD. I finally had to reenter a month's worth of timesheet data, AR and AP and then spend 2 hours getting payroll data resent for the two payrolls I ran under QBO so it updated my Desktop books. I am still dealing with the Feds for late fees on duplicate payrolls that were simply recreated on my Desktop version.
DON'T DO IT
What system did you go to?? This is outrageous......
What system did you go to?
Which QB Desktop year version do you have?
I went with Xero for basic accounting, and Gusto for payroll. Very satisfied with both, ymmv.
Back to my Desktop version of Quickbooks - and I am as frustrated as everyone else with the subscription fee pricing.

How do I get a trial version. Every trial version I find says 1 month free. Not forever.
You're correct that QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) allows only thirty days to use its trial version, @Jburg23. Let me discuss this further and guide you.
QBDT trial version is designed to give potential customers a realistic experience of the software's robust accounting and financial management components.
Right after the specified period, you have the options to re-downlaod the trial version or consider subscribing to the paid version. Please ensure to meet the system requirements for seamless experience.
