When I go to invoice a customer and bring up the invoice screen, The product/service column does not appear, It just has a description column?

I invoice using line items, the column is not there to choose from when invoicing. How do I know it's going to the right account?

@accounting638 QB SUCKS!!  Try clearing your cache and see if that helps.

Sometimes, after clearing the cache, I have to restart QB to make it work properly.

Hi @accounting638, thanks for reaching out in the Community! It sounds like you're having trouble with the 'Product/Service' column not showing up on your invoices. I can definitely help you troubleshoot this.

First, let's check a couple of things within QuickBooks Online:

  • Customize columns: Go to the 'Gear icon', then 'Custom Form Styles'. Select your invoice template and click 'Edit'. In the 'Content' tab make sure the 'Product/Service' column is selected and visible.

  • Check your view: On the invoice, Click on the 'Manage gear icon' for options to customize the columns displayed. Under the 'Customization' tab, 'Product/service' should be selected.

If those steps don't work, sometimes browser issues can cause unexpected behavior. Try accessing your QuickBooks Online account in a private browsing window (Command + Shift + N for Safari, Ctrl + Shift + N for Chrome, or Ctrl + Shift + P for Firefox) and see if the column appears there. If it does, clearing your browser's cache and cookies might resolve the issue.

In the meantime, to ensure your items are going to the correct accounts, you can manually enter the account name in the 'Description' column for now.

When I go to invoice a customer and bring up the invoice screen, The product/service column does not appear, It just has a description column?

Hi,

The issue of the "Product/Service" column not appearing on the invoice screen is likely due to a settings misconfiguration. To ensure this column is visible and linked to the correct account, follow these steps in QuickBooks Online:

1. Enable the Product/Service Column

  • Click the Gear icon () in the top-right corner.
  • Select Account and Settings under the "Your Company" section.
  • Navigate to the Sales tab on the left-hand side.
  • Scroll down to the Sales form content section.
  • Make sure the option "Show Product/Service column on sales forms" is turned ON. If it’s off, click the pencil icon to edit, toggle it on, and save the changes.

2. Verify Products and Services Setup

  • Go to the Sales menu in the left navigation bar.
  • Select Products and Services.
  • Ensure that all products or services are linked to the correct income accounts. Edit each item as needed to confirm or adjust the account association.

3. Customizing the Invoice Form

  • From the Gear icon, choose Custom form styles under "Your Company."
  • Select the invoice template you’re using or create a new one.
  • Ensure that the "Table" section within the invoice template includes the "Product/Service" column. Adjust other columns as necessary.

4. Test the Changes

  • Go to + New and select Invoice.
  • Confirm that the "Product/Service" column now appears. You should be able to select line items and verify they are connected to the correct accounts.

This process should ensure that you can use line items on your invoices and confirm that transactions are posted to the appropriate accounts.

Or, you may be facing an issue with the browser cache. Please follow the steps below.

browser cache or cookies could potentially cause display issues in QuickBooks Online, including problems like missing columns on forms. If the steps to enable the "Product/Service" column do not resolve the issue, try the following steps to clear cache and cookies or use a private browsing mode:

1. Clear Cache and Cookies

  • In Google Chrome (recommended browser for QuickBooks Online):

    1. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner.
    2. Navigate to Settings > Privacy and security > Clear browsing data.
    3. Check Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files.
    4. Click Clear data.
  • For other browsers like Firefox, Safari, or Edge, follow similar steps to clear cache and cookies.
