what are the scanner models that can be used to process and gather inventory information for cycle counts? Please be specific.
How do you handle a yearend inventory that has over 10,000 parts to count, when your cycle count only allows 5000 tasks cycle count? Please be specific.
Thanks for getting back with the Community, Brita2.
Your scanner will need to support EAN-13 (International Article Number, formerly European Article Number) and Code-128 barcodes. It will also need to produce a single carriage return at the end of barcodes.
You'll want to be aware that serial port scanners aren't compatible with your ES Barcode feature. The Warehouse Manager App and sales order fulfillment worksheet requires a Zebra TC21 or Zebra TC26 mobile barcode scanner.
In regard to your question about handling a year end inventory that has more than 5000 tasks to count in its cycle, you'll need to delete items until you're below the limit.
If you encounter any discrepancies, QuickBooks will automatically adjust your inventory count and values.

Are we going to have to do 2 to 3 separate cycle counts to complete a 20K part year end inventory count?
Is there a way to do a cycle count that is over the 5000 item limit?
Thanks for following up, Brita. Let me chime in and provide more details about inventory cycle counting that my colleagues shared in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
Currently, the system is designed to limit each inventory cycle count to 5,000 items. As such, you cannot exceed this limit in a single cycle count.
Therefore, to complete your year-end inventory count of 20,000 items, you'll want to conduct multiple cycle counts, at least 4 separate counts, to cover your entire inventory effectively. You can refer to the steps provided by my colleague in the thread to be guided.
Moreover, I'll include these resources about staying on top of your inventory movement and using barcodes to make data entry faster and easier:
Please let me know if you have more questions about the cycle count process or when managing your inventory items. I'm always here to help you.
I understand that you are limited to 5000 units when doing a cycle count. Is that 5000 individual pieces of inventory or 5000 SKUs? I've been told the limit per cycle count is 500 SKUs, and within that, you can do up to 5000 pieces of inventory. Is that correct?
I appreciate you joining this thread, Sharpie7. I'll clarify inputs when managing cycle count inventories in your account.
As mentioned by my colleagues above, each cycle count is limited to 5,000 tasks. You can create items until you are at or below the limit.
For individual pieces of inventory, you can create items as much as you want to utilize them when making transactions. With that, you can do more than 5,000 inventories into your file.
I'll include this reference for more details: Cycle Count in Advanced Inventory.
I've also attached this helpful guide for suggestions on how you might manage your inventory in various ways: Setup and use the Warehouse Manager in QuickBooks Desktop mobile.

Define what you mean by using the word "tasks". I do not understand what you mean there. Are tasks considered SKUs or are they pieces? If I have a SKU but have 10 pieces in the bin, does task equal one or does task equal ten?
I appreciate your interest in gaining clarity on tasks related to cycle count inventory, Sharpie7. Let me discuss how this works in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
In QBDT, a task refers to the action of counting entries made during inventory processes, particularly cycle counts. Please note that this is not considered an SKU, as it represents a unique product code assigned to each item.
For instance, if you have ten items, the process of counting and receiving those items represents a task. The product code assigned for each item is the SKU.
