941 Overpayment Correction

I prepared a bonus check for one employee on 12/28, the payment was on the same day as normal payroll. When I prepared the check the system withheld only the employee part of Social Security and were no suppose because he reach the limit of SS withholding. Then did the contribution to the IRS. Now I'm trying to submit through e-file the 941 for the last quarter of 2018  and QB is not letting me do it because I have an over-payment. I don't know what to do. I'm requesting a refund from the IRS to reimburse the employee.

941 Overpayment Correction

I'd be happy to assist you today, amaldonado.

I'm here to help and provide some insights on how to correct the 941 over payment.

If you already file the form outside QuickBooks, you can check the overpayment from the Taxes & Form and you have the option to record the refund or apply it to the next period. To check for the overpayment, you can check this recommended article for detailed steps: https://community.intuit.com/articles/1771354-resolve-a-tax-overpayment.

However, if you haven't filed the form yet, you can reach out to our QuickBooks Payroll Specialists to help you correct the form.
