Good day, rodgersconst.

I'm here to help ensure your contractor's EIN is recognized so you can proceed with their 1099 in QuickBooks Online.

As an initial step, you might want to ensure that you're entering the contractor's EIN in the correct format XX-XXXXXXX. This way, QuickBooks will recognize their Tax ID. See sample screenshot below.

If the format is correct and QuickBooks still can't recognize it, we can perform some basic troubleshooting steps to isolate the issue. Let's start by pressing F5 on your keyboard to refresh the page. If you're still getting the same result, you can open your QuickBooks account in a private window.

Here's how to open a private window in different browsers:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: press Command Shift N

Once signed in, go back to your contractor's profile and re-enter their EIN. If it rectifies the problem, clear the browser's cache. Clearing the history or log of sites resolves most issues with the web pages.

You can now proceed with their 1099. Here's an article that will provide you the detailed steps and instructions: Create and file 1099s using QuickBooks Online. This write-up will provide you a link to the new 1099-NEC form.

Kindly update me on how things go by adding another comment below. I want to make sure you're all set, and I'm here if you need further guidance. Have a great day! All the best.
