Just upgraded from QB Desktop 2022 to 2024 ... when I try to access Employees (even though we no longer use QBooks PR) I get a message about updating PR files and then QB crashes. I checked for updates, installed everything I could find, and this still happens. I don't have to have a subscription to payroll to access Employees do I?
Also, whenever I try to do updates it finds "Critical Fixes 1262755" downloads, says Update Complete after a few minutes, but when I go back to check for additional updates it goes through this process all over again. I did use the "Run as Admin" option when launching QB. I'm able to print PR Reports from the reports tab; it just crashes when I select Employees
I acknowledge the value of your time, and the details you've shared regarding your concern with accessing your employees are much appreciated, Dmillerss. I'll provide some troubleshooting steps to help you get past this.
Beforehand, what you've said is correct. You can still review and manage your employees without having an active payroll subscription but can't run your payroll and its features that require internet access.
Moving on, the Critical Fixes 1262755 notification indicates there's an essential available update. Since you're in the loop with updating your PR files even as an admin and trying multiple times to proceed, here are some fixes to handle this accordingly:
Solution 1: If you've previously used payroll services before upgrading, you can consider turning on the Manual Payroll setting in the system. It helps avoid issues with your accessibility after the update.
Solution 2: Repairing QuickBooks from the Control Panel:
Solution 3: Removing temporary files to fix software installation issues:
Solution 4: Check the compatibility of your company file to the QBDT version you're using and update it to the newest file version.
If the issue persists, you can utilize the Quick Fix my Program tool from the Tool hub or the Verify and Rebuild tool to resolve file issues and crashes.
