You can't and you shouldn't. Each employer must deduct Social Security for all wages up to the limit. The same is true for most all state payroll taxes.
If the employee has multiple employers, they will pay more than the max for the taxes and then they'll get the taxes back when they file.

Similar situation - I am receiving a severance at the beginning of a year which will max out Social Security withholding, cause additional medicare tax withholding and eliminate the need for Social Security portion of self employment taxes through any income earned from my s-corp during the year. Is there a way to turn off Social Security for EE and ER, but increase the medicare portion of the withholding for EE only?

@Jovelyn_M The reply from @ZackE is so wrong as to be ridiculous, despite being preceded by the correct answer from @BigRedConsulting . It will cause all federal payroll taxes to stop being withheld, not just social security.
That is on top of the fact that, as you yourself said, employers do not get a choice in when to stop withholding social security taxes from their employees.
How did @ZackE even get to be an administrator without knowing this?
Why has your company allowed their post to remain like this for over a year?

Well that's stupid. What if the employee is not subject to social security and medicare? How are we expected to handle that?

This must be yet another way QuickBooks Desktop Payroll is better than Online.
