Can I change the accounting periods from 12 to 13 within the fiscal year? To have 13 periods with 28 days per period?

Hi there, dennis40.

Thanks for reaching out to the Community.

QuickBooks follows the 12 months accounting period for the fiscal year. You can only select the first month of your fiscal year which starts on the initial day of any month.

Here's how you can set it up in QuickBooks Online:

  1. Go to the Gear ⚙ icon.
  2. Click on Account and Settings.
  3. Select Advanced tab.
  4. In the Accounting section, verify that the setting in the First month of fiscal year field is correct, or select Edit ✎ to change the setting.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Select Done.

Just some feedback here for what it's worth.  Not allowing a company the option to set up their individual periods is a huge miss for such a versatile package as Quickbooks.  For example, companies that align their operations & expense reporting to coincide with their payroll weeks, will run on fiscal periods with start & end dates based on day of the week.  This is becoming more and more common.

Good day, LFBell.I appreciate you sharing detailed information about your concern.

The option to set up individual periods within the fiscal year is currently unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO). I can see how this feature would be beneficial to your business.

In the meantime, I'd recommend sending a feedback request directly to our Product Development team. This helps us improve the feature of the program.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear menu and then select Feedback.
  2. Type in your feature request in the description box.
  3. Once done, click on Next.

For additional information on how you can customize a report to focus on the details you want to see and how to view date ranges side-by-side in reports, you can refer to the articles below.

Please check this article to see steps on how you can memorize a report to allow you to save with its current customization settings: Memorize reports in QuickBooks Online.
