Hi there, @jrmurphy12-gmail.

I'd be happy to help you copy the data from your trips from the year 2020.

To do that, filter the date range to 2020. Then, locate the transactions, put a checkmark beside the transactions. After that, click the Export button and open the file.

Once done, change the details needed and import them to your QuickBooks Self-Employed Mileage page.

I've added some screenshots to see how the process looks like:

To import the Miles transaction:

I have tried this method and keep getting an error message.

"Uh-oh, looks like we ran into some trouble importing this file. Http failure response for https://selfemployed.intuit.com/secure/mileIq/import: 400 OK. Correct it and try again."

Let me know what I can about this please.

Thanks for joining us here in the thread, @Endurancerdr. Allow me to share some insights about your concern.

There are two possible reasons why an error has occurred when uploading the file to QuickBooks. It's either the Date range of transactions submitted in the file was in the future. It can also be the date format is incorrect in CSV files.

To get this fixed, you’ll have to open the file and ensure you have the correct date and format for QuickBooks to acknowledge your upload.

For more information about CSV formats, you can visit this article.

Thanks but that link you provided is for uploading transaction csv's. I am trying to do mileage csv. Are you saying that the mileage csv needs to be 3 or 4 columns? Please specify which headers I need in those columns.

I have already fixed the issue with my tracking but I appreciate those links as well.

Thanks

Thanks for posting here again, @Endurancerdr.

I want to make sure you're able to import your mileage CSV file successfully in QuickBooks Self-Employed. Unlike importing transactions, the CSV file for mileage has more than 4 columns.

Please refer to the screenshot and descriptions below:

MileIQ CSV upload issue self-employed

  1. “START_DATE” – The starting time and date for your trip.
    1. To quickly format this column, use Google Sheets to format the dates correctly, and format the time columns correctly, as stated above.
    2. Put the date start time columns next to each other in Google Sheets.
    3. Next, copy the rows from Google Sheets into a text editor.
    4. In the text editor, the columns will be separated by a tab. Copy the tab character to your find and replace feature. Replace all tabs with a space.
    5. Now copy all data from your text editor into the “START_DATE” column in your MileIQ sheet.
  2. “END_DATE” – This column works just like “START_DATE” and instead you just use your ending time.
  3. “CATEGORY” – This column needs to say “Business” for any trips marked as business. Use the text editor trick from above to quickly replace all “Work” and other business-related trips to say “Business.”
  4. “START” and “STOP” – These are your starting address and ending address. You can use any address format for them. Be sure to edit these fields in Google Sheets so you don’t accidentally botch the formatting where it relates to the CSV format.
  5. “MILES” – This column shows how many miles you drove. It must be a number.
  6. “MILES_VALUE” – This column shows how many dollars credit the IRS will give you for the miles. It must be a number, and must not include the “$” or other text. Use Google Sheets to format them as a number, not as currency.
  7. “PARKING” – This column shows the cost you paid to park.
  8. “TOLLS” – As with “PARKING,” it can be all 0s, and Quickbooks ignores it.
  9. “TOTAL” – This column is the total of “MILES_VALUE” + “PARKING” + “TOLLS.”
  10. “VEHICLE” – Put what you want here. Quickbooks Self employed only imports this data into your existing car, so the name of the car is unimportant.
  11. “PURPOSE” – This column needs to match “CATEGORY” exactly.
  12. “NOTES” – Just leave it blank, as Quickbooks doesn’t use it.

Once done, you can follow these steps to upload the file:

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Self-Employed on a web browser.
  2. Go to the Miles menu.
  3. Select the Add Trip ▼ dropdown. Then select Import MileIQ trips.
  4. Follow the onscreen steps to get your mileage from Mile IQ. If you already have your mileage in a CSV file, select Browse and upload the CSV.

If the any issues arise, it would be best to get in touch with our Customer Care Team. An agent will be able to check on your mileage file via secured environment and further assist you via secured remote access session.
