Can you please help me fix a payroll mistake? I accidentally paid an employee Regular Pay instead of Overtime, and he already deposited the check. How do I fix it? TY!

I use Payroll Core (QB automatically remits taxes). I need to give employee a check for the difference, but don't know how to do that and have the books and taxes be correct. I can't void the check and issue a new one because he has already deposited it. QBO doesn't appear to allow me to enter negative hours in Regular Pay in order to move those to Overtime.

You're correct, Jacq. QuickBooks doesn't allow negative hours to be entered for payroll adjustments.

With that said, I highly recommend reaching out to our Live Support team for assistance in correcting the amount of the check. They can guide you through the process to ensure your payroll records remain accurate.
 

  1. Go to the Help ? icon.
  2. Click the Search tab, then Contact Us.
  3. Enter a brief description of your concern.
  4. Hit Continue.
  5. Select how you would like to connect with us.
     

At the same time, I suggest reaching out to your employee to discuss and come to an internal agreement, such as giving the remaining amount outside of the system.
