Clergy Housing (Cash) - what to put for "Recurring amount"?

I have a simple question about the "Clergy Housing (Cash)" additional pay type.  Let's say that the clergyman is to receive $24,000/year in clergy allowance and that we run payroll twice a month (i.e., 24 payrolls/year).  Am I correct that I should enter $1,000 in the "Recurring Amount" field?

Yes, you’re correct @dbland07666.

When using the Clergy Housing cash pay type, amounts entered will be included in net pay. That said, you can enter $1,000 in the Recurring amount field.

Once everything is good, you can now process your employees’ payroll. And if in case you need to view your finances and their payroll information, you can simply run payroll reports in QuickBooks.

Moreover, you can visit these resources to learn more about allowance pay types:

Clergy Housing (Cash) - what to put for "Recurring amount"?

We pay our clergy weekly, but only pay the housing allowance the fourth pay period of every month.  Is there a way to set up Auto Pay for payroll to accommodate that?

Let me share some information about auto-pay in QuickBooks Online (QBO), berthanicholas.

The Auto-pay feature allows businesses to automate the payroll process. It's to simplify and streamline payroll management for employers and ensure employees are paid accurately and on time.

Furthermore, autopay functionality is suitable for making payments of fixed amounts that remain consistent on each payday. Consequently, it is not feasible to utilize autopay for clergy housing, as the housing allowance is disbursed every fourth pay period, and the amount varies accordingly.

Additionally, there are two pay types for Clergy housing allowances, Cash and In-kind. Cash is used if the church provided funds to the pastor to pay for their housing. In-kind would apply if the church pays the housing and other expenses on the pastor's part.

Here’s how to set it up in QuickBooks:

  1. Go to the Payroll menu and select Employees.
  2. Locate and select the employee.
  3. Click the Pencil icon next to Pay types to edit it.
  4. On How much do you pay Employee? section, click the Pencil icon.
  5. Select the Additional pay types drop-down arrow and click Clergy Housing(Cash) or Clergy Housing(In-kind).
  6. Hit Save.

Once done, you should now be able to create a payroll with just the housing allowance.

Let me know if you have other questions about payroll. I'm here to help you further. Have a great day.
