Different salary and hours for first month - how do I set this up?

My employee is not only starting mid-month but also full time for this first first month (September) and then 30 hours a week going forward. The employee is salaried.

Do I first set this employee up to 40 hours a week with the September salary amount and than after I run payroll for September go back in an change it to 30 hours and the new salary? Or is there a smarter way to do this?

Thanks!

GL

Different salary and hours for first month - how do I set this up?

Hello there, GLADK.

I'd like to share what I know about setting up employee's salary in QuickBooks Online Payroll.

Upon creating payroll our system doesn't allow you to change the employee salary. But you can modify the hours worked. Thus, before running payroll you need to calculate the hours worked.

To override an employee's hours:

  1. Go to Workers,  then Employees.
  2. Select Run Payroll.
  3. Choose the pay schedule of the employee. Then select Continue.
  4. Check the box to the left of the employee.
  5. Under Salary column, click the hyperlinked dollar amount.
  6. Select adjust Salary this time only.
  7. Enter the hours of unpaid time off. Then tap Apply.

I'm adding this link for frequently asked question about payroll and salaried employees: Common questions about payroll and salaried employees.
