Give QuickBooks TPA access to Massachusetts Withholding

Please read the entire message before responding. It's very frustrating when you list what you have already tried and someone with an EMPL badge suggests you try the same thing.

There are instructions for adding QBO as a third-party administrator for Massachusetts Unemployment here. That is not what I want to do.

There are no such instructions for adding QBO as a TPA for Massachusetts withholding. The link for this in the help files goes to the same page as the link provided above.

The question was asked here long ago and the answer was to select Add third party administrator in MassTaxConnect. There is no such option in MassTaxConnect.

MassTaxConnect instructions clearly state that the third party must request access, which we then approve. So how do we get QuickBooks to request that access? Or is there a workaround? Surely someone has figured this out.

Give QuickBooks TPA access to Massachusetts Withholding

@Repurposed We understand you're unable to grant QuickBooks third-party administrator (TPA) access for Massachusetts withholding taxes. This can be tricky, and we want to help you get this sorted.

To resolve this, we recommend contacting our support team directly through your QuickBooks account. They can provide specific guidance and confirm the best way to handle TPA access for Massachusetts withholding taxes.

Here's how to connect with them:

  4. If you can't find answers to your questions:
    • QB Assistant: Type in "Talk to an expert." You'll get options for expert help.
    • Search: Select Contact us to be connected to an expert for help.

Give QuickBooks TPA access to Massachusetts Withholding

The so-called-expert transferred me to a salesperson who told me I had to sign up for Payroll Premium because that tier offers an expert to help. So apparently, this cannot be done with Payroll Core because there is no expert and setting up withholding in Massachusetts requires that help.

So for a single employee I’m being told I have to pay for the Premium payroll service.

I’m so tired of QuickBooks trying to suck me dry. I’m investigating other options to handle my small payroll.
